Kethapayya Narayan Temple Overview

Ranked 8 of 15 sightseeing in Murudeshwara

Kethapayya Narayan Temple is famous for its Vijayanagara style of architecture and beautifully carved sculptures. Tourists can come across the four pillared Navaranga, a kind of a hall along with statues of Ashta Dikpalakas that stand as guards in the eight directions.

Moreover, tourists can also witness the walls that are carved with different figures and various scenes from the Ramayana like Putra Kamesti, Rama Pattabhisheka and Vanavasa. At the entrance of the temple, stands a huge dhwajastambha which is a flag pillar. Kethapayya Narayan Temple is situated at Mudbhatkal in Bhatkal and is few kilometres from Murudeshwara.

Awe inspiring Temple

The Narayan Temple is famous mainly for the 123 foot statue of Lord Shiva next to it. Both the temple and the statue are truly awe inspiring. Visitors can take a lift to the 18th floor of the gopura from where great views of Arabian sea and the town. We had visited during the rains when it was very cloudy and hence I would recommend visiting on a sunny day when the true splendour of the statue can be appreciated.
