Beautiful Sculpture

This is one of the earliest landmarks of Chittor, from the Jain era and is definitely a point to visit. And of course a photographer's delight! Worth a visit, definitely for a short visit in Chittaurgarh.

Dedicated to Lord Adinath to glorify the Jainism

Kirti Stambh or Tower of Fame was built by a Jain Businessman from Digamber community, Jeeja Bhangarwala, during the rule of Rawal Kumar Singh in 12th-century, for the glory of Jainism. Chittorgarh is having an ancient history and it was an ancient centre of Jain Traditions. Chittoor is adjacent to the Madhyamika means the middle-most as Lord Buddha Chose Middle Way, few inscriptions from Mathura and of the Kushana period of first to second centuries indicates that it was a Jain Centre. Three inscriptions have been found that mention Jija Bhangarwala built the tower. This seven storeyed and 22 metres high tower was built in Solanki style as the base is 30 feet wide and 15 feet at the top having a narrow staircase. It is a magnificent Indian Sculptor art and architectural monument, which was built before the victory tower. It has many images sculpted outside and inside and decorated by this art, and dedicated to Lord Adinath.Jainism and followers were always respected by Rajputs of Chittor, which is signified by the Jain temples and Kirti Tower, which are situated within the fort. This is one of the architectural marvel which was built by sandstone and decorated with carving and with sculptor work and all the four sides have the engraved Idols of Lord Adinath in Digambar style and each is of about five feet with several small idols consecrated to Jain lineage of deities. One may have an insight to Mahaveer Swami Jain temple which was renovated during the period of Maharana Kumbha and one will find on the way Suraj Pol, which is also a viewing point and the jungle down to it where the 1303's battle was fought. Camera, water and anxiety one must keep. Sample of unmatched workmanship, and wonderful heritage.
