Kolleru Lake is considered to be the largest fresh water lake in India that spreads across the West Godavari and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh. This lake is also known as the ‘Peerless Fisherman’s Paradise and Bird Heaven’. It is a shallow freshwater lake that expands up to 954 sq km at the highest flood level.

This lake receives water from the Budameru, Tammileru, Yerra Kalva and Ramileru rivers. It is also the breeding site of birds like open bill stork, cormorant, grey-heron, painted stork, duck, tern, jacana, moorhen, egret and white-ibis. The best time for visiting this lake is between the months of November and March, when large number of migratory birds can be spotted here.
