Kottakunnu Overview

Ranked 1 of 19 sightseeing in Malappuram

Kottakunnu is famous for the ruins of an old fort, which is situated at the base of the cantonment hill. It is believed that the fort was constructed by the Zamorins of Kozhikode and houses Vettakkorumakan Temple and the Shiva Temple. Renowned for its architecture, these temples are famous for housing murals of Malabar.

Possessing rich historical significance, the site is renowned as the death place of Variyan kunnath Kunjahammed Haji, a revolutionary. In 1921, he was shot dead by British savagery in the premises of this site. Kottakunnu is planned to be transformed into an attractive park by District Tourism Promotion Councils and plans are driven to establish a stadium in its vicinity.

Tourists can reach the destination by helicopters as the site also possesses a helipad. It also has an art gallery, which exhibits various artistic works of tribal as well as trained artisans.

Natural Beauty of Hills

Kottakkunnu is a nice hang around area in the centre of Malappuram. Its famous for the various activities taking place here from time to time. One amusement park is also here and is available for children with tickets. The place is located at a height, so we can see the entire town from here.

In midst of a town, a nice set up

Kottakunnu Park is located in the middle of Malappuram Town. Just the place where I can go out for a walk alone or with friends. Thumbs up to the organisers for keeping the park well and beautiful. Parking facility is also there which adds to the positives.

A place where many people visit

kottakkunnu is basically just a hill top with well maintained lawn but every day 100s of peoples especially couples visit. Every evening 100s of peoples are flowing to kottakkunnu. Every sun set is beautiful from Kottakkunnu. From kottakkunnu you can see almost entire Malappuram. There is no entry fee if you enter without vehicle. If you are going Mallapuram i strongly recommend visit Malappuram between 5.30-7 pm.
