Krishnajanmabhoomi Temple Overview

Ranked 2 of 28 sightseeing in Mathura

Krishnajanmabhoomi Temple is situated in Mathura and was first built by Raja Veer Singh Bundela of Orcha. The temple is constructed over the prison, which is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

According to the legend, King Vasudeva and his wife Devaki were imprisoned by Kansa, the king of Mathura at this place. He imprisoned them due to a prophecy which stated that the king will be killed by his sister's child. This temple marks the birthplace of Lord Krishna, who killed  king Kansa.

Several artefacts along with utensils, old statues and a rock based slab have been excavated from this site. The temple shares a common wall with the mosque and devotees have to undergo a security check. Moreover, mobile phones are also not allowed in the temple premises.

Religious importance

This place is full of Security Personnel, and monkeys! The shops near the temple are rip-off, and better not to buy anything there. Only the arrangement for keeping Shoes etc. Was very functional.

Beautiful temple and the tunnel inside it is so attractive

This holi I visited this place with my friends. As you all know that holi of Mathura is so famous and visiting such a event live to me was wonderful. In this temple cameras and other electronic devices are not allowed. So you will be unable to click photos but yet the temple is so beautiful that everyone should visit it.The main wonder come when the aarti of shree krishna bhagwan starts So if possible go at the time of 4 - 6 pm.Also the KARAGRAHA place inside it where shri krishna was born is also beautiful. The famous thing that you should take is the PEDA of mathura. There are a lot of shop for the PRASAD. You can also get the PRASAD inside the temple and also the prasad that are especially made my the temple samiti purely can also be obtained inside the mandir. There will be a tag as "bhagwan ko churaya hua prasad yaha uplabdh hai".So main thing is to visit this place is for the temple and the karagraha where krishna janma takes place.

Place to visit

This is the place where Lord Krishna was born. Temple authorities are protecting the site in their best possible way. Must visit for all Lord Believers. Park your vehicle and climb a small hill to reach the temple. Surroundings and pathway to be improved.

Magnificient place to visit

Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple is located in Mathura and one of the Dham of chardham yatra. Lord Krishna was born here. The visit of the temple and the prison(birthplace of Krishna) was a memorable experience. The festival of Janmashtami and New Year attracts lacks of pilgrims from all over India. Apart from the visit you can have a taste of the delicious lassi. The tour is highly memorable for a religious feeling and a sense of divinity. I felt gratified by visit of this sacred place.

Birth place of Krishna

There are number of gates to enter, you have to leave all electronics items in the clack room near the gate. Visit on a normal week day to have a peaceful & leisure darshan. Sometime the sannidhi(place of main deity)will be temporarily closed by a screen for puja & will be reopened shortly. There are other places inside the complex which will be interesting to see. You can taste good lassi inside.

The premise is well maintained and neat and clean place. The temple is at height and on a big platform. Nice idol of Lord Krishna and much more to see in temple. The only leading and world famous temple in Mathura so do visit.

Best mandir to be visited

Best Krishna Bhagwan Mandir I ever visited. Moreover trust and govt should pay more attention on cleanliness. Transport management was also there and must be clear about route demarcation. Streets are so congested and with full of crowd there is no security /check system to manage sabotage and anti social activity.
