Kolaba Fort is located at the distance of around 1 km from the Alibaug Beach in the coastal town of Alibaug. This sea fort was constructed by Maratha warrior, Shivaji Maharaj, which has 25 ft high, 350 ft wide and 900 ft long walls. The fort dates back to around 300 years and was built in 1680. The entrance arch of the fort has numerous carvings of elephants, peacocks and tigers. Near the entrance gate, many shrines of god and goddesses are present including Padmavathi, Sri Ganesh, Mahishasura, the fort-deity and Kanifnath. In 1759, Shri Ganesh Temple was built by Raghoji Angre in front of the sweet water tank.

Located at a walkable distance from Alibaug beach

The main attraction for this fort is its location. Though not well maintained, it is a picturesque fort surrounded by waters. This fort lacks tourist guide who could explain the significance of this place. It's at a walkable distance from Alibaug beach. You can also hire a horse cart to reach here from the Alibaug beach and enjoy the journey.

This fort is situated near Alibaug beach. One can admire it's panoramic view from alibaug beach. Fort is quite old yet quite amazing in terms of peace and calmness. If anyone want to take a break from his/her busy daily routine then this place might be a heaven for them to relax. You can experience Cool breeze from the fort as this fort is very close to beautiful Alibaug beach.Overall this is the unique place which I have seen so far.One must go for it.

A peek into history

Maharastra has many famous forts built by Shivajimaharaj, and this- the Kulaba fort- is one amongst them. The fort was built on a rocky island just about a km from the Alibaug shoreline. It's surrounded by sea waters at high tide times but can be approached even by walk during low tides. It has two enterance gates, one towards Alibaugh beach and the other facing the sea. Some families continue to stay inside this fort which had over a thousand residents during its prime time. One can see a water well, a Ganesh temple and a big water storage open tank plus ruins of dwellings. The fort has thick walls with a walk way all around. Cannons of that era are still in good shape at some points.A place worth visiting when in Alibaug. The entry to the fort is Rs five only.At high tide time, some boatmen can help you reach the fort and bring you back.

The view is great

Great experience, the fort size and appearance is great, if you stand at the top of the wall the sea view is awesome. Specially recommended during sunset.

A wonderful fort in the midst of a sea

This is a good visit from the Alibaug beach. Takes about 45 minutes to see the complete fort. There are two temples in the fort. The fort was built by the great Maratha King Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

History live again!

It's like history live again with cannon still available on fort. Archaeological Survey of India enables proper maintenance of the fort.
