Like always I would like to begin with the positives. This is a heritage property located very close to Yercaud lake. The plantation within which the hotel is located is majestic. We had a lovely walk through the greenery and you can also have lovely views of the forest. The king size bed in the bungalow suite or English suite (not sure since I got conflicting versions from the staff. The room was 602) was very comfortable for the 3 of us They have a trampoline which my kid had great fun on and it left us with time to watch movies being projected on the big screen with a beer. The food was good at reasonable price. The buffet breakfast was okay. I did not like the cheese omelet I ordered as it was overdone The room service was good the food ordered was promptly served. Lots of monkeys, bane or boon, up to you to decide. We enjoyed their company Now the negatives. I was told that I was being upgraded to a English suite even though I had booking for bungalow suite. I was shown Room 602. The other one I was shown was room 120 or 121. This was very small and so called bungalow suite. So settled for the 602. Initially, the geyser did not seem to work. On calling first we were informed to keep it on for 30 minutes. Then later when we were back after lunch, we informed that because of the power outage the geysers would not work until 6 pm. Yercaud was very cold an we had to manage with very cold running water in the night Next morning we realized something was wrong. The electrician came and told us that the coil is spoiled. Its a nuisance to have people running into you room trying to fix things. When I was having Bath, the geyser started leaking water rendering the bathroom unusable. By the time help arrived again the tank was empty. The water input to the geyser had to be disconnected There was no room available at that point until 12. 30 pm. We went for sightseeing back at 4 pm. Supervisor told me that he came to our room to offer us an adjacent room but we were not around. We were staying there for 2 nights and I then was not really in a mood in shifting for the second night Finally, I was given an on the house dinner buffet for the troubles faced. I also wish that this place is better maintained. By the way I don't have Club Mahindra membership so I am not sure if the non-members are treated as well.
I spent a relaxed 3-day stay with wife and daughter here, in late 2013. I actually reached Yercaud a day in advance, and had to put up at another hotel for the day. When I moved in here the contrast was strongly positive! It felt like you were inside a mini forest and it was very refreshing. We had a first floor accommodation with glass windows on 3 sides that overlooked a slope of vegetation. It was like being nestled in a carpet of green, though we were warned to keep the windows closed from the evening to avoid unwelcome winged visitors of the night. The place was quiet and it's great to just lounge around, doing nothing There was a comfortable double cot at one end of the room and an additional single cot at the other end. Reasonably spaced for '2+1' with a dining table in between. We were very happy with this "cottage" till we walked around the property on day 2 when we came across bigger cottages that seemed more spacious and better furnished, our's feeling a little wanting! Lake Forest was right opposite the lake which was the centre of the town, though the little driveway set's you away clearly from the hustle. There really isn't much to do at Yercaud but the Lake is where the various sight seeing trails branch off. The hotel wasn't very crowded so there weren't any social activities organized inside during this time, unlike typical Mahindra/Zest resorts The food was very good and not pricey. Morning buffet was more than filling and you need to watch out to avoid over-eating! The short eats we ordered in the evening - various 'veg frys' - were tasty and went very well with the masala tea An enjoyable 3 days with a little driving around each day. Would love to stay here again, probably in a more imposing cottage!
We went there in mid October 2013; the Property is very close to the Lake and walk-able distance from the city/town centre. The property is old but very well maintained with complete aesthetic and antique value. The place is completely green friendly, and they always try to protect the flora and fauna that lives in and around the property. The view from the room and whole property is too good. The room was quite good and well maintained though old. The bed was very big and also had an extra single bed near the television. Regular cleaning was done by the housekeeping team, except for reminding them only once. There were ample plug points to charge our phones and the switches and switchboards were of antique model The people there were very friendly, especially in the reception and in the restaurant. My son who is just three years old still remembers names of a few people there who were very friendly with the kids and played with them. They serve both a' la chart and buffet. A' la chart is served in the room during the specific hours of buffet. The buffet had a very good but a medium spread. The taste was too good. When we go out we have ample number of restaurants very close to the property / lake, if we want to try different food. The travel desk will arrange cab for sightseeing and pick-up and drop to and fro Salem junction and Lake Forest with a nominal charge Every evening they have some activities or games conducted for the inmates, which our kids enjoyed. But there is not swimming pool, kids play area in the property. There is a well maintained gym, indoor play area for elders which has carom, chess, mancala (pallanguzhi) etc and a few shuttle rackets for big children to play in the open area Only major thing I was concerned during the stay was safety for kids both in the room and in the restaurant. The windows in the room and in the restaurant was very big and openable from the floor level and the handle to open it was in very low height that kids can open them very easily and it was very deep down when we peep through the window. I had in fact given suggestion to the manager while leaving to change the model of the window, such that it can be open only from certain height and it is kid's proof Overall it was a pleasant and memorable stay.
We were a group of 6 friends & one 2 year old who travelled in September 2014 from Bangalore. We rented a self drive car from Bangalore and drove to Yercaud. We reached the hotel at about 2 pm and checked in. The front desk offered us a Forest facing room whose veranda basically opens up into the forest. The room itself was average probably because they wanted to maintain that old world charm. The flush in the bathroom wasn't working. The bed, linen and everything else was clean and standard. Carry a mosquito repellent. Coming to the hotel itself the experience was far better. Its a beautiful property with so much greenery growing everywhere that staying in the hotel is better than going outside. There were green pepper trees right outside the veranda. The hotel is built on a slope so you had to climb to reach the top from where we were staying - much like a fort. Older people may have trouble doing that. There is an in-house restaurant but we preferred eating at the nearby Sarvana bhavan since we are all vegetarian. Its a great place for kids with a lot of activities planned out and there was a trampoline outside the restaurant where my daughter had a great time! If you are a budget conscious traveller then this place is kind of steep. Overall the rooms and service were average. But the property itself is super. Carry a TT racket & ball if you are going because there is a TT table in the garden.
It was a long weekend (May 1-3) and we definitely wanted to escape from the heat and humidity of Chennai. So we found this lovely resort named the Lake Forest (which is an English version of Yer-caud: Yeri - Lake, Kaadu - Forest). We had found good reviews online, so we booked it even though it was slightly costly due to the long weekend rush Instead of going by public transport, we drove down. We took the scenic route of Chennai - Ulundurpet - Attur - Salem instead of the Krishnagiri route. There are loads of stopovers on the way and we had stocked our car with drinks and snacks and soulful music to go with. We reached Salem in a decent 6 hours and asked for instructions to Yercaud In the pictures, we saw a lot of greenery, but were still pretty thrilled when we reached the resort. It was lovely and cosy and reminded you of the British era - The hotel was renovated with an idea to recreate an atmosphere of colonization. What we loved was the fact that they have taken utmost care in creating a semblance of balance between nature and us. So the rooms are in the middle of a wonderful surrounding of trees, just outside your window, you'll find a great blossom of flowers etc We had booked a Bungalow there. The rooms were not luxurious, but decent for the money we shelled out. Initially, we were not happy with the room shown to us because the mattress was very thin (4 inches), but we let the room service know our displeasure and they showed us a couple of alternates and we picked the better of the lot. We felt the service could have been much better as we had to call the housekeeping and ask them for floor mats and towels, but the response and handling of requests was timely. They had a huge open area as an eat out/ dance area and we had our dinner there. Special mention to vegetable cutlet and vegetable (we're vegetarians :)). The veg moussaka was delectable and the best I've ever had until now. Our package was inclusive of breakfast and contained the regular fare of South+North Indian + English mix The weather was hot in the noon's but towards evening turning wonderfully chilly. Which was a joy in the peak of summer. We hired an auto and checked out all the local delights. It was fairly simple as there is a huge map and a list of places right on the main road from the resort If you were to go there, my suggestions would be - go with your family (even big families would enjoy, as they have trampolines for kids to go crazy with. ). ASK for what you need as the management tries to help out as much as possible. Definitely dine out in the open area and try out the delicacies suggested above.
