Lake Pichola Overview

Ranked 1 of 16 sightseeing in Rajsamand

The Pichola Lake is one of the largest and oldest artificial fresh water lakes of Udaipur. It has a length of 4 km and a width of 3 km and gets the deepest during heavy rains. This lake is said to have been built in the early 15th century, during the reign of Maharana Lakha. It was built by a Banjara tribesman called Pichhu Banjara, who built a bridge over this lake to get his bullocks to cross it.

The lake also has been enlarged once by Maharaja Udai Singh, who built a stone masonry dam known as Badi Pol, near it. The surroundings of this lake comprise palaces, marble temples, bathing ghats, family houses, etc. At the south of this lake lies a hill called the Hora Magra; from where the Eklinggarh Fort is visible, while at the east of it is the City Palace of Udaipur. At its north, there is a ceremonial ghat, which is the celebration site of the Gangaur Festival. Other nearby attractions include Jag Niwas Island and its lake palace, along with Jag Mandir and Arsi Vilas Islands.

      Gives breathtaking view of nature

Lake pichola is famous for its ghats and breath taking view of nature and palaces around it. From city, palace is at one side lake palace and jag mandir in the middle. Hotel Udai Vilas and hotel Leela Palace at another side and the old wall city at the bank of lake pichola give you mesmerising view. Many films have been shooted here. From famous "JAMES BOND - OCTOPUSSY" to "raam leela" to "yeh jawaani hai deewani" to "Prem ratan dhan payo" and many more.
