Lakshman Jhula Overview

Ranked 1 of 40 sightseeing in Rishikesh

Lakshman Jhula, which was built in 1939, is a suspension bridge, which is 450 ft long.  In early 1889, this jhula was a hanging jute bridge, which was later rebuilt into suspended iron bridge. The jhula was named after Shri Ram's younger brother Lakshman because it is believed that Lakshman used the jute bridge at the same site to cross the Ganga River.

Situated 2 km away from Swarg Ashram, this jhula provides a beautiful view of famous temples, ashrams and River Ganga. The Lakshman Jhula is used by the people as a path for visiting Swarg Ashram and Gita Bhavan. On the either side of the jhula, there are famous temples like Lakshman Temple and Tapovan that are also frequented by the tourists.

Laxman Jhula

It's very scenic but major problem is 2 wheelers traffic on Jhula. All the joy of crossing and looking at scenery gone because of this. Have to be very careful from 2 wheelers moving in from both the directions on such a narrow path. Two wheelers, cows, stray dogs should be stopped coming on Jhula. Otherwise it's worth only for a long view and not for actual crossing.

Old but definitely gold

The laxman jhula, duryodhan it's ambience feels as old as the city itself. The hanging bridge may not be more than three feet wide but is the hub of all religious activities in Rishikesh. Markets on both sides selling Rudraksh and other religious items is are always abuzz with people from all nationalities. Evening aarti are a sight to behold. Laxman Jhula is actually the Nerve centre of Rishikesh.

Lost its spiritual value and meaning

Lakshman Jhula in Rishikesh is a hanging bridge over river Ganga offering a very beautiful river view but the place is become overcrowded now even small two vehicles can be shown on the bridge which is really annoying and also make it difficult to cross. For me Lakshman Jhula losing spiritual value and meaning. One can take some beautiful pictures with a nice backdrop.

Awesome trip to Rishikesh

Trip to Rishikesh was an awesome Experience. I visited Rishikesh for the first time. I was there in hot summer of June, but weather was great their. In day it was hot summer but with pleasant coldness of hilly area. I am there for 3 days and all 3 days are memorable moments of my life. I am in love with this place, I'm sharing some sightseeing photos of Laxman Jhula, The Ganga River and some temples located on shore of Ganga.

Naam Bade aur Darshan Chhote

I had heard a lot about this place from many relatives, so I planned it to go with my wife. But, after visiting this places, I can say that it is a very over hyped place. It is crowded, noisy and full of garbage and littering all around. The view of Ganga river though is nice and breezy. The place is flooded with foreigners who come here to seek peace through Yoga and Meditation.

Awesome and historically Ironic wire bridge

Lakshman Jhula (Hindi: is an iron suspension bridge across the river Ganges, located 5 kilometres (3. 1 mils) North - East from the town Rishikesh in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The bridge connects the two villages; Tapovan in Tehri Gearwheel district to Jonk in Pauri Gearwheel district crossing the river from west to east. However it is near to the Rishikesh city thus creating ambiguity in its location, the bridge is one of the iconic landmarks of Rishikesh. A similar bridge 2 kilometres (1. 2 mils) downstream from Lakshman Jhula is Ram Jhula. It is said that Lakshmana crossed Ganges on jute ropes between the place where this bridge is built. Lakshman Jhula was completed in 1924. It replaces the old bridge of 284 feet span which was washed away by great floods of October, 1924. This was opened to traffic on April 11, 1930.

Wonderful experience!

The act of walking on Laxman Zula gave us a thrilling experience. It was slightly shaking when we reached middle of the bridge. The persons driving on motor cycles on the bridge however, were seen driving fast and recklessly which may damage the bridge as well as hurt the people walking over the bridge. The overall experience was most exhilarating. I would love to visit it again.

Religious visit

A jhula where you can feel the bounce.. Got the option to explore the bridge at 6 AM, 4 PM and 8 PM. Enjoyed every time. Everyone was loudly praising Shri Ram and Bholenath (Lord Shiv Ji). Met loads of Shiv bhakts or Kawariya's.

Nice place

An awesome heavenly feeling while crossing Laxman jhula above flowing Ganges and rafting people in sight. Good cafes and food around and the serene ghats.
