Le Dupleix is a heritage property located in the former french quarter of Pondicherry. Nestled amidst equally quaint old Indo-French structure, a mere 250 mtrs from the sea-front promenade, this former residence of the French mayor, Le Dupleix is a prime example of how to restore, adorn and run a heritage resort. Comfortable rooms with tasteful antique furniture and fittings greet you as does the nicely done exteriors and common areas. The place is resultantly cool even when the usual sweltering southern sun beats down in the middle of the day. The in house restaurant is characterized by excellent European and Indian fare. The overall experience is one of the best my wife and I have had during our frequent getaways to destinations in India over the past 2 years. I would highly recommend Le Dupleix to the discerning traveler who wants to go beyond the packaged \'half day sightseeing\' and \'gobi manchurian\' experiences most \'resorts\' dish out.
The hotel was rich in legacy and a great place to stay in Pondicherry. The food and staff was superb. The building is maintained very well and it is proximity to the beach road and the park is an added advantage. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would definitely stay there next time when I visit Pondicherry.
While Reading up on hotel reviews on TripAdvisor, my husband and I were debating between The Promenade and Le Dupliex and we were finding it difficult to make up our minds as we both liked different hotels. Luckily we extended our trip and thus ended up fulfilling both our wishes by staying 3 nights at The Promenade and 2 nights and Le Dupliex The hotel is very calm and quiet, situated in the by lanes of the White Town, making it peaceful but yet very close to all attractions. It is also absolutely beautiful - there's a lovely courtyard as you enter with a huge tree and the decor is very simple and gorgeous with blue chairs. There are yellow flowers placed all around the hotel making it look even more beautiful and inviting. My first impression of the hotel while entering was simply - wow! Thankfully it got better as we proceeded to our room, which was awesome. It was very spacious with a lovely 4 poster bed, a couch, an antique writing table and chair along with a wardrobe and mini bar unit. The bathroom was equally awesome with a huge Bath tub. The only drawback being that there was no health facet in the bathroom and I wish there were Bath robes too. The main door of the room as well as one wall in the bathroom was actually frosted glass which looked awesome The hotel staff was very warm and helpful. I had emailed them asking for a cake with a personal message to be kept ready in the room before we checked in as I wanted to surprise my husband and they did all that I asked for perfectly The hotel is actually the Governor's old bungalow which has been converted, and it's really nice to see that they have managed to strike a good balance between keeping the old charm of the bungalow and adding modern touches to it. All the little nooks of the hotel have tastefully placed furniture like a love seat in the corner of the landing between floors, a swing in the corner of the corridor outside room no. 5, an olden days cane recliner, etc making the entire atmosphere very comforting and inviting. They also have a few board games like scrabble and monopoly in the courtyard for a quiet family time The breakfast buffet is pretty much like the Promenade, which we later realized is owned by the same group. There is south Indian food- idli/ uttapam/ Vada and a live dosa counter, along with choice of cereal and bread, with a live counter for omelets. They also had nice fresh juices, croissants and muffins.
I had been to the restaurant of this hotel a few times earlier but this is the first time we stayed in this property and it was indeed a pleasant experience. The 18th century building has been resorted very efficiently to full glory The effort is visible from the ornate ceilings and the antique furniture in the rooms. The rooms are clean and the interiors are very interesting. The staff were friendly and attentive to the guest needs. The restaurant is probably one of the best in town with a very interesting menu. Will definitely recommend this hotel and most likely consider to stay again.
We visited Pondicherry for my wife's birthday and our 5th anniversary and I must say it turned out to be on the best trips we had - a lot of credit goes to the hotel . . The hotel is a boutique heritage property (old French home) situated in the French quarters - fantastic location - walking distance from the promenade, French cafes, art galleries, restaurants and other tourist attractions. Then hotel has 14 rooms - each with a distinct character - we stayed in the Luxury Penthouse - a nice cosy room with a large 4 post bed. The best part of the hotel was the staff who went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Right from helping us with tourist attractions, local taxi / bikes / restaurant suggestions and decorating our room with flowers - they did all they could to make our trip special. The food is great (the chef takes personal interest in the requirements and needs of the guests) - we really enjoyed our dinner in the courtyard with a live violin performance. Would specifically like to mention Suresh / Nelson / Uma - they were extremely hospitable and welcoming - we really felt pampered. We are definitely going back to Pondicherry and needless to say we will be staying again at Le Dupleix.
