360 degree view of Minicoy

A visit to the Lighthouse is one of the attractions at Minicoy island. The lighthouse is situated near the southern end of the island is about 50 meters in height and is functional. There is a small fee of Rs. 20 for carrying a camera or Mobile phone with a camera inside. At a given time only about 10-15 persons can climb the spiral stairs. It can be a tough climb for older persons and those with medical conditions. The last flight of stairs is quite steep to climb. Once at the top the climbing ordeal is forgotten as we get a 360-degree view of the Minicoy island and the sea surrounding it. The island appears fully covered with lush green trees and the blue waters surrounding the island are truly mesmerising. Not to be missed.

The over a century old light house

This lighthouse was built by a French company in 1885. One has to climb up the circular stairs to reach the top. On the way up one gets to know the changes that happened over the years like from a kerosene wick lamp to the present halogen lamp system. The circular prism arrays convert the lamp light to a beam which can be seen over twenty kms. The panoramic view from the deck of the lighthouse is fascinating. One overlooks the lagoon and the spread of the island.
