You have to visit this place again to retrieve your soul

Cherry blossom trees in both sides of the road welcome us to the village of Longkhum, the oldest and the historical place for the Ao tribe of Nagaland. As we enter the clean and the quiet village, there is a surreal feeling of calm and serenity which I experienced. The first site we visited was the AKM Tower (AKM stands for Ao Kaketshir Mungdang. It is a union for young Ao's. This tower was built to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of AKM). One can see the entire village and the surrounding areas from the top of the tower which is breathtaking. Surreal but true, the strong wind which made my hair go up literally concentrate only on that area because as we come down to the village, it was quiet and calm.Next, we visited the Late Imkongliba Memorial site. He was a well known figure among the naga freedom fighters. This site is great to take selfie or pictures because one can look like they are on the top of the world because of the natural scenic arrangement. The most interesting site for me at this visit was the Longlangpa. The entire path of the site is covered by flat long rocks with trees and greens all around. This is believed to be the dating area of the Naga Romeo and Juliet. Interestingly, the large slab of rocks where they sat is well preserved. For those who love to hike can also visit the small stream, below the Longlangpa which is believed to have healing power. Sadly, it was dry when I visited because according to source, the tiny stream has water only few months in a year.Lastly, we wind up our sightseeing by having tea and home made biscuits provided by a kind villagers at his clean and huge kitchen hut.Maybe true, maybe not - there is a belief that if one visit Longkhum, then they have to come back to retrieve their soul because one is believed to leave their soul at their first visit.

Panoramic view of Doyang river and Naga Hills

Longkhum is a historic village of the Ao Naga tribe located near Mokokchung. It is a small hamlet which provides a good opportunity to see the daily lifestyle of Ao Nagas. Longkhum offers a panoramic view of Doyang river and the surrounding Naga Hills. It also has remains of megaliths and engraved footprints of local legends Cena and Eiben.
