A small city with two main attractions

Mahalaxmi temple is definitely worth visiting as its a masterpiece of architecture of middle ages. Next is Panhala fort. One must stay there overnight. Historically a rich place. A guide is essential to really enjoy the visit ( rs 300/-).

Amazing temple

It is an old temple of goddess Mahalaxmi. We were here during Navratri to worship the goddess .. The queues were strategically made such that we didn't have to wait more than 15-20mins in the queue for our darshan. If you are in Kolhapur do visit this temple.

A must visit once temple

The temple is one of the Shakti Peetha. So it has a very important role in History & Hinduism. If you are visited Kolhapur, then visiting this temple is a must.Location: The temple is in the heart of the city. It is known to all locals & autos are easily available.Exterior: The temple has 4 main entrances on each side I. E. East, West, North, South gates. Shoe rack is available for safekeeping on East gate. Pooja Thali, Sweets for offering to the Goddess is available on North & West gates.Interior:There are 2 internal entry gates. Entry near north gate is for entry to the main Temple & worshipers can get near to the Goddess Mahalaxmi. Whereas entry near south gate is for worshiping from a distance. If you want to visit the whole temple & also enjoy the beauty then go from the entry near north gate. The temple is carved of stones. It has many beautiful structures.Festivals: There is no direct sunlight inside the main temple. Kiran Utsav is an important festival here during which Sun rays reach the Goddesses Mahalaxmi. Full moon nights are also important here.Overall: The temples is a must for all Hindu devotees. It is believed that if you visit the temple, You get salvation from your desires or you can fulfill them.

Beautiful temple with intricate architecture

Cell phone is allowed and you can take some photos other than goddess. No fees, free darshan. No rush you can complete darshan with in 1 hour. Best time to visit any temple is morning hours. Better not to take digital cameras, other wise you have to deposit at security point. Ch appal stand and small lockers are available to keep small and medium bags. Better not to carry huge bags. Temple cleanliness is normal.

Ancient Temple of goddess Mahalaxmi

This is one of the ancient temple & made up of full black stone. The carvings on the stone are beatific & marvellous. One can get peace of mind. The temple is open right from 5 AM till 9. 30 PM. After the darshan of deity the tome can be spent for souvenir purchases. In the vicinity you can get nice Maharashtrian food to eat. The kandi pedhas are the USP of this place. All in All must visit place in Kolhapur. The camera & photography inside the temple is banned. However once can carry camera & snap in the temple complex.
