Malwa Retreat is a budget & mid-budget property of M P Tourism in Mandu. The other one Malwa Resort is a high budget property. Located on the main road while approaching from Indore / Ratlam this property is very easy to locate with lot many sign boards. Booking a room through M P Tourism website is quite simple. We had booked an AC Room for 3 nights (other options are air cooled room, AC Swiss tents & dormitory). We reached Mandu (about 10. 30 am) well before the check in time of 12 Noon but we were allotted our room in just 10-15 minutes of reaching there. Check in formalities were very quick & we were escorted to our room on the first floor. Our initial reaction after seeing the room was that it was too small in size. But we were so wrong. The room had a twin bed, TV, centre table, two chairs, two cup boards & a window AC. A small private balcony is attached & gives awesome views of the gorge. Washroom is big & a changing room is attached to it. Overall the room was very clean & neat with lots of place to organise your clothes & photography equipment. Cable connection of the TV was disconnected (by some mischievous monkey) & the same was solved in few minutes. Window AC of the room was too noisy for our comfort. In monsoons AC is not really required but during sunny afternoons we felt good to relax in an AC room. Malwa Retreat is a mid sized property. Gorge views are awesome & on a bright & sunny day you can view the sun rise from here. The market & some of the monuments are located at a walking distance from this retreat. Overall the property is very well maintained. Restaurant is located at the entrance along with reception. Since breakfast was included in the tariffs we had all our morning meals here. The only disappointment we had during our entire stay at this place was the breakfast. During booking & after check in we had clearly mentioned our preference for Jain food. Despite that, all three days we were made to eat Poha, bread butter & papaya, while the other guests had 2-3 extra other dishes (like puri-vegetable, potato Paratha, omelette) for their consumption. Requests to cook for one more Jain dish (Paneer Paratha) was bluntly turned down. As a result all our other meals (lunch & dinner) were taken in the restaurants located in the market area which catered to our request for Jain food to their best ability and our satisfaction. Tip: Choose the rooms on first floor as they offer better views. Also try out Swiss tents for their awesome views of the valley.
It's like a totally lifeless hotel. Fortunately, we were there only for one night The rooms are just about white washed. Poorly lit and not very good state. The only thing good was it's food which was good. I suppose the staff was not bothered for service. Very boring property you don't know what to do, except watching TV.
Stayed here for one night with friend, frogs and insects are roaming inside room. Toiletries are not there. Anyhow food was great, they have less option but whatever they have taste good. As it is MP tourism hotel but no maintenance of hotel building.
The Malwa Retreat is a cheaper option among two Hotels for staying in Mandu. The location is simply outstanding. This is situated behind the Jahaz quarter and at edge of a mountain. The sunrise is amazing, the surrounding is very calm and refreshing. The rooms are small but very clean, the toilets are relatively larger and neatly maintained. The landscape of the terrace is beautiful too. We had some shower related issue, which was quickly sorted out. Problem begins with the front desk and ends with room service. The manager had a typical govt employee like attitude and the room service is super-slow. The restaurant serves high quality of Indian food and the service is slow. That is acceptable though as the place do not get too much of tourist, then simply prepare fresh foods every time they get an order. To pack up, the hotel is very nice in a never forgettable location.
We reached Mandu without hotel reservations & randomly walked into this hotel. We were really impressed by the decor and the prompt service. The food & beverage options were limited but we weren't really expecting much in a slightly offbeat place like Mandu. Nevertheless we were immensely satisfied. The rooms were clean, spacious and the lawn overlooked a lovely view. Overall great experience.
Recently I got an opportunity to visit Mandu. We were a group of seven friend and had an outing for an adventure. Mandu is the best hill station in Nimar-Malwa region. We suddenly planned the trip. We had no clue where to go. Night before the journey one of my friend booked the hotel. I was really pleased by the look of the hotel. Because it is located in village type of atmosphere but the treatment inside was sophisticated. The food was good. The special Dale Bati really made the day. Also there was a good hygiene maintained. Our trip was focused on adventure in Mandu. But I would say the treatment of the Malwa Retreat also took our attention. The best thing was, it was in budget and with good taste and comfortable atmosphere. Next time I would like to plan my trip for little longer. I would suggest the best season to visit Mandu is after rainfall. August-December is ideal time to visit.
It is a romantic drive from Indore. Hotel's location is great and is just outside the village. Service is good and staff is cooperative. Only 2-3 good places to eat in Mandu and its one of them. AC tents have better view towards the valley. For better location and comfort, go for Malwa Resort located near lake and mornings and evenings views are awesome there. Great place to visit, and one should reach early morning to enjoy it to its fullest.

It was a pleasure trip and my stay with MALWA RETREAT was comfortable. The staff were polite and ready to extend any help. The quality of food was good and service up to the mark. The maintenance of room was poor. When pointed out it was explained that due to heavy rain maintenance work could not be undertaken and same will start after the rainy season.
