Mangalagiri is one of the eight important Mahakshetrams (sacred places) in India. It is also oldest Vaishnavite Temples in the entire South India, whose presiding deity is Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. This temple was built by the Zamindar Sri Raja Vasireddy Venkatadri Naidu during the period 1807-1809.

According to a legend, the mountain on which the temple is located in the form of an elephant. This holy placed was visited by Hrasva Srungi, son of King Pariyatra. When his father came to bring him back to his kingdom, Hrasva Srungi took the shape of an elephant and became the abode of Lord Vishnu, known as Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy.

At this site the temple of Sri Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy has been built. Towards the right of steps that are provided to reach the temple, there is a stone inscription by Sri Krishna deva Raya of Vijayanagar. On going beyond, the foot prints of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu can be seen. Further up is the temple of Lord Panakala Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy.

Religious visit

Panakala Swamy Temple, Mangalagiri. It's very auspicious temple which absorb "panakam" means jaggery water in a cave. People offer panakam to God. It's a temple on a mountain, convenient to go by road or little walk by steps.

Good divineful place

I visit this place frequently on business purpose. And I visit this temple compulsorily. This temple is located in Mangalagiri town which is tucked in between the "eastern ghats". And it can be reached easily through Vijayawada to Guntur highway. This temple is open from 7 am to 3 pm only and the architecture of the temple is awesome and so big. The god located here is "Panakala swami" who is located on hill here(local god). The best time to visit is during the "chandanotsavam". The public transport is "best way to cover the temple which won't cost more than 200/-". And this area is "also famous for shopping of textiles"(mangalagiri cotton sarees).
