Marvelous Mt. Katao !!!

Mesmerizing Views!!!I went to Lachung on 26th March 2016 and stayed in Tenzing Retreat Villa, I enquired and found Mt. Katao to be a wonderful place, since my itinerary doesn't cover Mt. Katao and my driver asked INR 3000/- extra as it is around 25km and require a permit to visit, already I had a permit to visit Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang Valley and Zero point, I agreed for INR 2500/- and we started our journey at 5.15am on 27th March 2016, the views from the beginning till the Army checkpoint was absolutely stunning, but nobody was there in the check-post, waited for 20 minutes and took some fabulous photos to cherish, finally one army person came and told that nobody will be allowed beyond this point and showed us the barbed wire fencing which is the dividing line between India and China, it was freezing cold and I could not stand there, so we returned back after 45 wonderful minutes.Must visit for all age groups when we are in Lachung, but it will be very cold so please take your woollen clothing along with gloves and monkey cap to withstand the freezing cold and enjoy the beauty.Note:1. We don't need a permit to visit Mt. Katao up to the Army check post.2. INR 3000/- is a tourist trap, it's just 25 km and takes only an hour to reach, 1000-1500/- will be a good rate depending upon the season.

Awesome natural beauty

Visited Mt katao in afternoon. Awesome curvy road to ascend by car. A mammoth roaring falls on the way. Road & surroundings covered with snow. Valley looks awesome from hilltop. (though only permitted to reach upto army checkpost). Chilly cold weather, snow capped mountain peaks, wide spread valleys. Full enjoyment to play with snow & throwing to each other. Awesome natural beauty.

Pure heaven

I travelled to this place in April 2015 with my wife and two kids age 12 and 8 years. We started early from Golden Fish Hotel, Lachung. It appears to be a sunny day. The journey itself is mesmerising. We reached Mt. Katao at 8 am and soon we had snowfall. It was simply awesome experience. This is last destination beyond which a armyman doesn't allow as it is approaching China Border. Please take proper warm clothes, breakfast and water because you don't have these there. Overall lifetime journey. I will recommend all to visit it even before Zero Point because less people travelled there.

The boarders of Sikkim

You must make an effort to visit this place which brings the beauty of nature alive. An army camp in the borders the driver can make an effort to take you there if you pay an extra sum. This place overflows with scenic beauty and you can see the natural aura of Sikkim from this height.

Must visit Katao as it is epitome of sikkim beauty

Must visit Katao as it is epitome of sikkim beauty, which even yumthang does not offer. Though your agent will say that permits are not given for this place but one can pay extra Rs.1000-1500 to taxi driver who can take you there.

A military cantonment on the hilltop

Mt. Katao is a restricted place and you can visit this place only if you can get a permission from the army. The driver can take you there provided you pay some extra money to him. It is a border area and you can see army jawans practicing firing and doing other exercises at such extreme temperature.
