Kolkata’s Muslim pilgrimage is Nakhoda Mosque was established in 1926 by a resident of Cutch, Abdur Rahim Osman. This mosque has been designed following the style of Akbar’s tomb in Sikandra, Agra. The gateway of this mosque has been created replicating the Buland Darwaza of Fatehpur Sikri. The dome-shaped mosque constructed of red sandstone has two minarets, each at the height of 151 ft, with 25 pillars of 100 ft-117 ft heights surrounding the minarets.

In this mosque tourists can see the Indo-Saracenic architectural style exhibited. With a spacious hall spread over few floors, 10,000 men can perform “Namaaz” at the same time. Visiting the mosque during the festivals of Ramzan and Id is best for the tourists who can enjoy the true spirit of these festivals.
