Village & P.O. Sangla, Tehsil Sangla, District Kinnaur , Sangla
We stayed at Negi cottage and had pre booked our rooms for two days. The location is splendid. A stone throw away from Baspa river barrage, the homestay is located amongst lush apple orchards. The rooms are neat and clean with hot water and western toilet facilities. The scenic beauty from the terrace is unparalleled. We could get some rare pictures of the sunrise from the roof top the next day Run by Deepak Negi, an ex military man courteous to a fault, the homestay has wonderful staff. The cook cum odd-job man Ashok made us dinner of our liking, taking special care to cook Bengali style food as per our liking. We were also served fresh lettuce from the fields, plucked right before our eyes for dinner. Mr. Negi also made us an early lunch the next day(again Bengali style) before we left The humility and graciousness of Mr. Negi, his wife, their daughter and great grandson left us wanting more. However the location of the homestay is a bit interior so make sure you ring them up for directions. Anyone travelling in the month of September onwards will see the orchard in full bloom.
Barot, a small cozy town located at the bank of Uhl river. We went there on 9th March, 2012, a day after Holi. We reached there at around 2 pm after much struggle to find out the home stay, as there were no signage for this particular homestay. We were little irritated b'cause it was really difficult to maneuver your car on those narrow lanes of Barot. Anyway at last we reached our destination and believe me all our irritation just vanished in a moment. The place was so pristine. And as KK Negi Homestay is just on the bank you could hear the sound of river Uhl passing by. Fantastic place for people who love offbeat places. Very few places to stay so better if one book the homestay in advance and then go. KK Negi homestay's tariff is nominal. And they provide only b'fast (aaloo Paratha with butter and achar/ dahi) or Maggi. Lunch and dinner you can either have from restaurant or if you wish you can cook in the kitchen of the homestay itself (you can use their utensils only). There are very few restaurants so choice of food is not much. Rooms are nice neat and clean with very basic amenities. (Don't expect luxury in a homestay). One can go for angling and visit the trout breeding farm. It was too cold for March (must be in sub zero temperature) therefore I would suggest to carry woolens or check with Mrs Negi about the weather before reaching there. Though they do provide room heaters.
