Nothing to see here

The potential for sight seeing location here can be improved but given the way to get to the dam, it is a difficult process. The way to the dam is arduous and takes a toll on the mind and body as the road is loaded with potholes and ruts. When you take the narrow 6 to 7ft wide winding road to the dam, all you have is a dam that can't be viewed from the proper angle. But if its a adventure or a unique memory you're looking for, then the journey is worth it. On the journey to the dam you get to see the wide forest/mountain view of the Kannan devan hills and the tea plantations. WORTH IT in every way. :)

A mini dam for hydroelectric power & irrigation purpose

Nirar Dam, a dam constructed for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation is situated about 15 km away from Valparai and is mainly used as for hydroelectric power generation and irrigation purpose. The drive to this mini dam is pleasing, though the road is in bad shape but the scenery and the cool breeze will magnetize us. The Nirar dam and its reservoir are located amidst lush green forests and hills. The area near the dam doesn't offer much facility for activities except a nice waterfall which is worth seeing.

Good but not much important

Nice place but not that important, can go there once, the drive through that route is good but there was not many restaurants nearby. The roads were good till the entrance of the dam.

Worth to visit

Water was bit less, but we walked down the stairs to take some photos and it was a good experience. You can taste the good bhajji's in the small tea shop.

Nothing more than taking pictures

It would have been great if they could have had some water sports here, just a Dam to visit. There is nothing much you can do except for taking pictures. You can hire a local-ate who can explain you things.

Nirar dam is a fun visit

Road is not so nice; we had to get the forest department permission to enter against a fee. Its on the way to Chinnakallar waterfalls.

It is a small dam

This dam is not beautiful like a Soliyar. The roads were badly damaged. I had visited Niran Dam in the year 2007. At that time the roads were not in a good position. Even after 7 years i.e. now 2014 it is lying in the same position. If the Govt. provides new roads, it will be helpful for tourists as well as the village people.

Awesome Location

This is a good dam, but the road to reach this place is not that great. On the way to the dam we did see some beautiful places, streams and rivers.

Visit during monsoon.

Just like any other dam, you need not walk much to reach this dam so even elderly people can visit unlike aliyar where you need to walk a fair bit!
