Nrityagram was established as India's first modern Gurukul for Indian classical dance forms. The school was founded by Protima Bedi, an Odissi danseuse, in 1990. There are residential quarters for students and the school offers training in many Indian classical dance forms, such as Odissi, Kathak, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Bharatanatyam and Manipuri.

The school provides ten-hours-a-day and six-days-a-week training for three years. The Nrityagram dance group has performed across India as well as abroad. A small temple located inside Nrityagram has the image of Kelucharan Mohapatra, the guru of Protima Bedi.

Mesmerizing place within Bangalore

It was indeed a "Paisa-vasool visit". The fee was just Rs.50/- It was worth it. This place is actually a gurukul where different kinds of Indian dance forms are taught. An amazing place for photographers to sight beautiful things. Its architecture is mind blowing. A very peaceful place to visit and see the dance performances.
