This place is 3km from the Kalka Shimla highway. The GPS mislocates when the cut leading to resort comes. Please find the resort hoarding on the right hand side enroute to Shimla. The road to resort is narrow but one can enjoy a good drive through out the journey. I directly contacted the resort person Mr. Anubhav for the bookings for which he gave me special discount s, very much lower than some other online booking medias. They gave me Duplex mud cottage that was very beautiful and comfortable. I precooked this package with included 2 meal plans. The food they prepared was very delicious and without any lacks and imcompletions. Airtel 3g works here but my jio was also working well good with only single network tower. My advice is one must visit this place in groups, as couple, family etc. This place has some awesome treks also. I visited Tara Devi temple which is approx 10kms from resort with very amazing driving experience.
A sudden trip planned in the evening, depart early next morning towards Michael hills. Will not go to Shimla, can go further ahead, just one night stay. This was the brief plan we had made. A group of 7 (two families) with a dog with one night stay arrangements just left early in the morning from Chandigarh. The drive was nice with no clue of destination. After Kaithlighat we decided to take a turn towards Shoghi and just before main Shoghi town we took a steep narrow road towards village Shun gal and Sura. We zeroed in on the first hotel/resort we saw - this was the Oakwood Retreat. Thankfully they allowed pets. A decent sized village resort (this is what they call themselves), you have to park your vehicles on the parking spaces (small area up hill) on the main road and walk down to the reception. We took a family cottage with three rooms and sitting areas. The package is provided on MAP (2 meals - B/F and dinner included). They have a dining hall and not a restaurant - so for lunch you need to pre-order. You don't have any place close by - so if you don't plan to go anywhere - as we did, you would have to eat out there. They have a small swimming pool but no changing rooms near it, so you would either have to walk back to your room or change in the washroom behind the reception area. The reception area has a sitting area and indoor activity area with a pool table and table tennis table. The Dining hall is located right below the reception area. One can also eat in open area in front of the Dining area. They have some activities like burma bridge, rock climbing, rippling etc. Which can be enjoyed during your stay. All activities including the use of the pool is on additional payment basis. Our cottage was in one end of the resort. The rooms are on the ground level, and on the top floor probably the owner stayed with a huge dog named Peter. Each room had an attached wash room. Two rooms opened to a balcony which gave you the view of the valley below and mountains above. One room had a window which opened to the farms. The washroom in this room neither had curtains nor had shaded glass window, so you had to hope that no one would watch you. The window in this room didn't close properly and in the afternoon when a dust storm came - the room was filled with dust and leaves etc. Each room had a LCD TV and so did the sitting area or the Living room which had a dining table too. There was only one intercom in the sitting area and that too was non functional (the status was same during our entire stay). Cleanliness was an issue in the cottage - there was a lot of dust on the dining table and other areas (at the time of our check in). The TVs in the rooms were not working (thankfully was rectified). The wash rooms were clean and bedding provided was comfortable. The rooms desperately needed repair and maintenance, wall paper peeling, wall panels damaged and so on. We had all our meals - Breakfast (on reaching as we had reached early), Lunch and Dinner. The food quality wise left a lot to be desired, if you are hungry you have to eat kind. The items were many but lacked in taste. The kids did try the activities there but not the pool. In the evening there was a hailstorm which definitely brought the temperature down. It also forced a power cut and that's when we realized the major issue in the resort - they didn't have power back up in the cottage. Everywhere else but not in the cottage. There were no candles / emergency lights also in the cottage, so we were sitting in pitch darkness. After requesting them multiple times they provided us with candles but by that time the power had resumed. The charge which we paid for a night and the services which were offered were a big mismatch. The owners can do a lot as there is a lot of scope for improvement. First and foremost major maintenance work is required. Inside the cottage we were not getting Mobile signals. The drinking water (they said it was RO water) had a very strong smell, we survived on Paid Bottled water. PRO - If you want to run away from the city rush, don't want to be struck up in Shimla this is a decent option. Location wise easier to access compared to Suro Treehouse resort around a kilometer away. Will not like to stay again at the prices we paid for average facilities. Please don't take the cottage - it does not have power back up facilities.
The reception and staff’s people behaviour was very co-operative. I had visited this hotel with my friends. I didn’t face any difficulty in this hotel. The hotel was located centrally in the city. There was variety in food available in the hotel. The service of the hotel was very good. All amenities were provided in room in working condition. There was no activity at the hotel. There was parking facility available at the hotel. I would suggest that they should decorate room in the hotel. The room was spacious.
Oakwood is almost 15 km before Shimla and in the valleys of dense forest with well modern amenities. Place to relax, play and adventure. Accommodation very good and food at buffet is amazing. The hut in the open area for dining is so comfortable. The staff at the hotel is very efficient and helpful and prompt, overall amazing.
The only reason me and my friend went to this resort was because it was referred to us by someone known. We had no idea how beautiful this place is until we went there and stayed for two days. It's an amazing scenic beauty and we stayed in mud cottages. The place is very calm. Food is average but if you visit the resort before October, do take a dive in their pool. It's an amazing feeling. Overall a very good resort to spend your weekend at and not too expensive.
My trip was so amazing, I enjoyed a lot in my trip. My resort was so beautiful with lovely weather, I feel like I am in heaven. Resort staff was very friendly and service was good. Room was also maintained. Food was awesome and I tried everything. My trip was wonderful. Thanks to the staff they made my trip so wonderful.
Hotel is nice, services are good, location is bit hazy, 3 kms down from the main road. If you are going in group then its good, as you get cheap deal with good quality. Hotel could improve more by adding good activities and cheap as compared to the neighboring hotels.
Following NH-22 and crossing old terrifying views when we reached the hotel it was really calm and relaxing. Not recommend for family but if you like something old fashioned than that would make your trip. Staff was very obedient and helpful, no issues with food and service but overall, I liked it.
I went to this place with my wife and kid. One of the beautiful place I visited and the hospitality is by far the best I've experienced. Great staff and great property loved our stay here. Looking forward to our next visit here. Stay in this hotel and get good service from hotel staff. Location of hotel is good.
We did our Team Trip to Shoghi in October, 2014. We booked this resort via a Travel Agent in Delhi The approach road to the resort is not good and you feel like where is this heading to. But once you reach, things start changing. The location of resort is very good and offers good view of the valley. It is 15 Km before Shimla and 3 Km off the main road, so there is no traffic noise. You can also spot the narrow gauge train, which runs from Kalka to Shimla. Resort offers activities like Swimming Pool, Bonfire, Badminton, Rappelling, Valley Crossing, Nature Walk, etc. The room service was really good. Snacks served during Bonfire were delicious. Buffet Lunch/Dinner were Okay It is a nice place to go and relax in the middle of nature for few days.
