The Chail Palace is actually a palace, not just a misnomer given by a hotel owner who believes his grungy hotel with bed bugs and cockroaches is royalty. Built by the Maharaja of Patiala at Chail, his summer capital during his exile from Shimla, this haven of grandeur and luxury has now been converted into a heritage hotel by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department.Standing taller than the surrounding pine and deodar trees, this is a perfect getaway for those seeking the blue blood treament, without having a hole in the pocket. Entrance: A flight of wide steps lead up to the entrance of the palace and you are immediately wonderstruck by the scintillating chandeliers, wall length portraits of the former royal inhabitants and several other interesting artefacts. Reception:The people at the reception are well dressed and polite, albeit a shade lazy sometimes. Accomodation: The Maharaja and Maharani suites are the most luxurious in the hotel. Its a beautiful blend of the olden day velvet upholstery, thick carpets and the modern day comfort of a television, a western toilet and a stylish bathtub. The other rooms were what the Maharaja used as guest rooms for dignitaries visiting him and for housing his numerous concubines. Some of these rooms are within the main building of the palace and some surround the palace grounds and are a small walk away. These are not just rooms but almost a house, replete with a small drawing room, a bed room with a quaint fireplace, a separate area for a dressing table with a beautiful view of the massive deodar trees through the stately windows and a modern bathroom. Food: For the first time I had a royal banquet, at the long banquet table that can seat a good 25 to 30 people. Crisp, white table spreads, high backed leather chairs and polished silverware made the meals a delightful gourmet affair. There were special items on the menu that were peculiar to the region and which I ate with glee. The service was excellent and the whole treatment transported me back into time. Activities: There is a tennis court surrounded by beautiful scenery in the palace grounds. The world\'s highest cricket ground is not too far away. Skiing is a popular sport on the surrounding mountain slopes that are covered thick in snow in the winters.
The Palace Chail is really a nice place. I went there for my honeymoon and this place offered what me and my husband wanted. Peace, calm and nature and cool weather. Even in the noon you can hear the voice of leaves falling from tress. It was awesome! Surely we will love to go there again in summers.
This is a majestic property in the hills near Shimla. We stayed at the Log Huts which are located about a kilometer away from the main Palace building. Choose this if you enjoy staying in the midst of nature. The huts are also way less expensive than the palace rooms which are quite steeply priced The only problem with the log huts is that you'll have to go to the main palace for your meals. However, the caretaker very helpfully gets the dinner to your rooms so that you don't have to go out in the dark I went with my family and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff is very cooperative and the place is peaceful Beware of the monkeys in the main palace ground. They normally do not come near the huts.
It was very-very nice. It was located outside the city but the location itself was very good. Room, service, food or everything was excellent. Garden and the whole property were maintained very beautifully. Staff members were very-very cooperative. Appearance of the hotel was very nice. It seems like a palace Room was spacious and maintained. All the basic amenities working perfectly. We went there in the summer time and it was snow falling at that time so we need a heater and it was also very good. Valley view was available there Location wise, it was very good. Food was excellent there. Room service was available there. For dinner you have to go the dining room only. I was happy with the food provided. There was little delay in check-in. No activity was there. They did not provide sightseeing trip but they provided help. We hired a taxi there. Temples there were very good. Finally, Chail is a very good place. It is value for money. I would definitely like to recommend it to others. They should organize some activities for children. Hotel's location was excellent. Chail as a destination is also excellent. Everything was excellent there like service, food, etc. The only problem was that there was a little delay in serving the dinner.
Services of the hotel were decent. Everything was great there. I booked my room online. I got my room quickly on my arrival. No delay during check-in and check-out procedure. I reached the hotel by my own vehicle. Hotel location was good and approachable. I stayed in this hotel for three nights. Appearance wise, hotel was attractive. Actually, this hotel was palace before and now converted in hotel. Hotel was well neat and clean. Room services were perfect. Room was tidy and spacious. They provided coffee maker, tea maker, geyser, bed, sofa, etc amenities in the room. Nature view was visible from my room. I had North Indian food which was fantastic. Food varieties were limited. Services and staff behaviour were nice. Many entertaining activities were organized by the hotel. It was my family tour.
