Ranked 17 of 40 sightseeing in Shimla

The Palace of Maharaja Patiala is positioned in the midst of Himalayan Pines at an altitude of 2,250 metres at Chail. The palace was constructed by the Maharaja of Patiala in 1891 and also served as a lodging place of British officials and laureates.

The palace is spread over an area 75 acres, enveloped in Himalayan Cedar forests. Combining the charm and beauty of mountain ranges, the palace was converted to a luxurious hotel with a museum gallery exhibiting the grandeur and elegance of a princely estate.

Wonderful and royalist place

It is a wonderful place, nice place, lovely staff and royal piano, mirrors, billiard rooms are available. I loved the place, most importantly, like the Rani's room, king's room, etc. You feel royalist once you enter the palace.

Royal place for royal people

It is an amazing place with royalist view, you will love to take pics of natural beauty and royal dining, room etc, rather than of yours. It provides room for stay for lowest cost near around 2100 rupee. I do not think 100 rupee entry fees is reasonable to this building, since after all it is hotel ( palace) and a govt. Property.

It is the best place to visit

One of the best royal place, it is having all the facilities that a hotel have and plus a tag of royalty. I love that place I hope you all will find it awesome. Wonderful scene you would love.

Nice serene place

Royal place that makes you feel itself Royal. King's dining is best and must be visited by all. Separate rooms for billiards, Raj Kumari, Raj Kumar etc is royalistic. Garden is beautiful, but still it is a hotel so 100 fee is not good for it.

Place is fine but why 100 rupees entry fee!

Location is fine, but I have not understood why they are making 100 rupee entry fee for it, since it is more of a hotel, where you can have a room as well. Scene is perfect. You feel royal yourself.

Not worth going

Not worth going, do not waste your time going there, nothing to see and nobody to explain the history. Not maintained, dull, photos, please avoid.

Conduct of cultural programmes is worth attending

It is indeed a heritage building supporting large size rooms which are better than any five star hotel and are well-maintained. The erstwhile Maharaja Bhupendra Singh was the founder of this unique building with country side looks but majestic in its attire. During festivals, the conduct of cultural programmes is worth attending.

A place to remind us of our great warrior, Maharaja Patiala

This palace is full of thrill. It made us feel that we are descendants of great warriors. History of Maharaja Patiala makes us feel proud. Must visit this place, if you are going to Shimla.

Famous for the 3 Idiots movie

We had a royal lunch in the palace. The palace is also famous for 3 idiots. Can you remember Chanchad Palace of Mr. Ranchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchod ? Excellent scenic beauty. Best thing of the palace is that the same can not be visible from Shimla but from the palace entire Shimla can be seen!!
