Parambikkulam Overview

Ranked 7 of 213 sightseeing in Coimbatore

Parambikkulam Wildlife Sanctuary is in Chittur, Palakkad. It lies in the Sungam range of hills between the Anaimalai Hills and Nelliampathy Hills.

The main draw of the sanctuary is its three man-made reservoirs - Parambikkulam, Thunacadavu and Peruvaripallam.

Apart from that, it is a nature lover's paradise as it sustains a rich diversity of animal life like Mammals, Amphibians, Birds, Reptiles, Fish and Butterflies. The sanctuary also has a huge variety of trees mainly teak, neem, sandalwood and rosewood. The oldest teak tree, 'Kannimara Teak' is a major attraction.

Parambikkulam is the ideal destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Photographers will also enjoy a visit to the site. The sanctuary is open from 7AM to 4PM during the season extending from May to June and October to February.

Trekking inside the forest is allowed with prior permission. Boating is a viable option at the reservoir. There is a tree house in the Reserve Forest area in Thoonakkadavu, the headquarters of Parambikkulam.

Parambikkulam is well connected with towns like Palakkad, Coimbatore and Pollachi. The best time to visit would be soon after the monsoons if you want to enjoy nature. However, the chances of spotting animals are higher during summers.

Idlyyic spot

A days outing from Coimbatore. Lots of activities - drive into NATIONAL park, elephant ride, hike etc. For those who like rustic stays there are lovely cottages in the national park.

Good weekend hangout

Ideally, to reach the place by 7.00 am as you can view most of the wildlife activity during early morning hours. Suggest taking enough water and food as good hotel facilities are lacking in the place, Good weekend trip location and for appreciating wildlife activity
