Patwon-ki-Haveli Overview

Ranked 2 of 52 sightseeing in Jaisalmer

Patwon-ki-Haveli is situated in a narrow lane near the Patwa Complex. It is the first haveli to have been erected in Jaisalmer. This haveli is essentially a cluster of five havelis, which was constructed in 1805 by Guman Chand Patwa. A rich trader, Guman Chand Patwa constructed five separate storeys for his five sons.

The haveli is built using yellow sandstone and the main gateway is brown in colour. The entire construction took over 50 years to complete and all the havelis were completed in the first 60 years of the 19th century.

Currently, this haveli is maintained by the state government, which uses it for different official purposes. There is an office of the Archaeological Survey of India and State Art & Craft Department inside the haveli.

Tourists coming to this haveli can take a rickshaw or simply walk through the narrow lane.

The house of once rich merchants

Patwon ki haveli is the house that was constructed by a once-rich merchant of Jaisalmer. He actually made 5 houses, in which one is kept open for tourists. The works on the houses are simply awesome. The furniture kept inside will give you an idea of how rich these people were once. There are many informative boards kept on the walls and Reading them gives you more knowledge on their then life.

Beautiful architecture

Very beautiful architecture. Right and left halves looks similar but having intelligent differences. Open drainage system and clogging of water makes the area dirty. Domestic animals also making the roads to Haveli very dirty. Commercial activity inside the haveli also seems questionable.

The Beautiful Piece of Art and Architecture

Patwon ki Haveli is one of the prime sightseeing place in Jaisalmer. The heritage monument is marvel of the city. The beautiful work of art on ceiling of the halls and chambers will leave you speechless. The premises is free to visit however if you wish to visit each chamber or halls then you need to buy ticket that will provide you guided access to the palace.

Seen better havelis

Trust me. The havelis are better from outside than the interiors. Few places to visit in the city. So the slightly better ones get hyped and crowded but then you feel cheated once seen all. Have nothing more to say!!!

The Heritage Charm

Patwon-ki Haveli is one of the popular attractions in Jaisalmer. It's not just the elegant buildings, but the location itself is clad in golden coloured stone. The narrow lane in front of the Haveli has its own charm. Better you get the service of a guide so that you will be able to get a clear idea of the historical value of the Haveli. We were lucky to have a guide arranged by the hotel Akashdeep, where we stayed. There is enough scope for photography too. People usually stand near the 'jharokhas' (the typical open windows in Rajasthani architecture) and get their pictures taken. A Jaisalmer visitor should never miss this heritage building.

Admirable haveli

Very nice haveli. A must visit in jaisalmer. Glass-work in few rooms are excellent. Cameras are allowed. Collection of antiques there are excellent. There are five havelis of Patois, but only one haveli is open for tourists, but it is worth visiting. It is better to hire a guide there who are available at reasonable rates.
