Phanigiri is one of the most famous Buddhist sites in India. Located about 52 km away from Nalgonda Town, the place has a Buddhist complex consisting of a large Stupa and two apsidal halls with stupas in it. The complex has large foot prints, considered to those be of Buddha. Phanigiri has three viharas, which were used as the dwellings, by Buddhst monks. The complex is perched on the top of a hill called the Serpent’s Hood Hill. The name of the hill was probably derived from its shape.
