Historic Fort, needs attention

Pratapgarh Fort is one of the major tourist destination near Mahabaleshwar. Compared to other sightseeing spots around Mahabaleshwar, the Pratapgarh Fort is little far off. It was a journey of around 45 mins to an hour from Mahabaleshwar. The most of this journey passes through a hilly terrain. There are few restaurants en route where one can take a break. There was a big gate welcoming the visitors of this Fort and just after a few minutes ride we were at the base of the Fort. The Pratapgarh Fort is historically very influential and is spread across the mountain. We had to climb up to reach the tops. The view from the top of the fort was scenic and very beautiful. The climb was bit tiring so it would be advisable to carry water bottle along. I was very curious before my entry inside the fort but the after entering what I witnessed was a Government's apathy towards the poor upkeep of the Pratapgarh Fort. At places, I also saw some maintenance work was going on. Hope the heritage is restored. We did not explore the entire premises of the Fort as it was massive for us to cover within a limited time we had. The Pratapgarh Fort being an iconic heritage, I always wanted to visit and finally I was here. With this happy feeling and a hope for better tomorrow for this Fort, we ended our visit to this Fort. It took us 4. 5 hrs to 5 hours to complete the visit and getting back to Mahabaleshwar.

Amazing weather

There is nothing on the top of fort but disappointment so my advice is to not go on top. But this part that I have upload pictures of is beautiful it's very scenic from there, it's so foggy and windy anyone would love it. Do visit the fort.

Beautiful 360 degree view from the top

This fort is very scenic. The 360 degree view from the top gives beautiful landscape view. There are some food stalls at the bottom of the fort. It's a good idea to carry some food items and drinking water to the place. The climb is somewhat tiring and so some food items and drinking water is required to be carried.

Nice place to visit in monsoon

Beautiful waterfalls are on road on the way to Pratapgarh which can be seen only in monsoon. Good road to reach. Entry fee is Rs. 10 pp. 450 steps to climb after parking. Tasty butter milk and corns are available on the way. Shivaji statue & a small garden is on the top. This fort can be seen at its best in monsoon only. Very cloudy atmosphere. One hour to reach and vice verse. One hour is enough to spend over there.

Not that worth visiting

Consider visiting Pratapgarh only if you plan for 2 days trip at Mahabaleshwar because to and fro from Mahabaleshwar center market, it will be 40kms round trip just for Pratapgarh. There are no other places nearby to visit, so plan your trip accordingly if you are on pay-per-km basis.

A must visit

Being at a very high place it gives a picturesque view of the western ghats blended with the rich Maratha culture and architecture. The best time to visit is during sunset or sunrise.
