]The hotel's location is simply windblown as its bang opposite Promenade beach and is near-by French War Memorial, Aurobindo Ashram, market, etc. Ours was a seafaring room so that added to the charm in such a way that my wife and I were hesitant to check-out. Just off the A/C for some time during convening and keep the windows open for a breezy affair Check-in and check-out were smooth. Reception kiosk has cashew toffees which are great (and can be bought in the market; next to Auroville shop is a small store which sells these toffees). The reception guys were amazing as I had forgotten my 2nd half of the laptop charger and asked for one. They gave me the full charger of their laptop and told me to keep it till the time I required it Indian food prices were atrocious (salad with 10 lettuce leaves and a bunch of vegetables, tomatoes and cucumber was priced at Rs. 250/- !! We were informed by the Food & Beverages manager that they would be revising the menu and the prices) and the service was very slow on one of the days. It took almost 45 minutes - 1 hour for Risotto to arrive! The reason given to us was that because of the upcoming elections, they were understaffed! This was naturally rebutted by their F&B Manager (who was patient and listened to our concerns) and the very next day I received my Risotto in 20 minutes flat Also, one of our neighbours had asked for Dale without chillies for her young kiddo, which came full of chillies! So, naturally something was amiss in the kitchen section F&B Manager was extremely kind to send chocolates and fresh fruits in the room continuously because of the food delay and we had to force him not to send more! He also arranged a candlelight dinner with wine for us at the Lighthouse terrace restaurant (serves continental on the rooftop, is pricey as compared to the quantity served) because of this incident Food (be it Risotto, buffet lunch/brunch, thin Wood fire yummy Pizzas), ambience (we felt as if one is in Greece because of white and blue colour) was excellent. Breakfast buffet was great, lipsticking and with the usual variety of cereals, dosa and eggs to order (live counters), idly, vadas, parathas, baked beans, fruits A great hotel with superb location, ambience, food with revision in food prices required on priority We would like to extend our thanks to Karthik (Reception desk), F&B manager Mr. Shakthi and Selvan (Lighthouse restaurant staff member) We would surely visit this hotel again and again and again and. Again !!
My wife and I were on weekend Getaway from B'lore to Pondy and I had decided many years ago from a trip that I had done to Pondy when I was in college that the next time I come here, I would stay at The Promenade. 8 years down the line, the hotel still looks as stunning as then with the beautiful beach stretch right in front of it and located in the Historic French part of town. All the nice restaurants and heritage sites are just a walk away. The staff was friendly but necessarily great with on time. We booked a Deluxe Sea Facing Room and were checked in to Deluxe Room. We were given wrong directions by the front desk which led to us missing lunch at nice restaurant. The food was great, all are meals were tasty and wait staff were fantastic and very nice. We visited in the Summer and we found that the AC in the room was quite inadequate and multiple complaints didn't get us anyone to even come look at it. The Deluxe Rooms are quite small and so I would recommend staying in Deluxe Sea View or Suite. The swimming pool is like a large plunge pool! Quite small. The food at their other hotel nearby called Le Duplex is fantastic as well. Try Villa Shanti for a meal as well. And a must do is to have beer and some nice seafood on the balcony of Ajantha beach hotel looking out on to the beach on Goubert Avenue in the evening and experience the nice sea breeze and beautiful ocean view. The only thing I would different is not to bother going Auroville if I'm on a short visit and try make it in the winter months (Nov to February) when its cooler to walk/ cycle around the beautiful heritage town.
This hotel is so vibrant and classy. The room was cosy and comfortable. The location is amazing, food was also very nice. Very stylish hotel. Located right at the French Colony, trip was amazing. Supportive and very active staff. It was the best place to stay. I strongly recommend to book in advance and look for the sea facing rooms. It was great.
Promenade Hotel was just within the city limits very near to the beach. The sea view from the hotel room was very limited coz of the window cum door. The hotel though had a smell of french cuisine everywhere. It was during christmas week that we visited the place and so there were decorations which had rose candles and other smells to make a good ambience. The food (breakfast) was very delicious, it was continental style and you get to select from a range of bread baskets, even Indian breakfast was on the menu. The omelette section was the best who serve as per your choice of filling and cooking. Though there were not much activities happening during our stay, we enjoyed the terrace restaurant one night and it was absolutely fantastic. The drinks, the lobster, and the service was very good.
Good location, excellent ambience, good food, courteous front desk, overall satisfying stay and long to be cherished memories. The hotel is old and beautiful. Location is dream come true. Seashore in front with historic and meticulously maintained. Beach road in front the hotel is unique. Food service is noteworthy with Indian. Both South, North and Continental delicacies well laid and decorated. I would like to visit the Promenade The hotel in future. I missed the visit to spa and gym this time due to short stay which I shall make up in my next stay. Staff was cooperative and helping, and also their dress was good. Hotel lobby was attractive and needs little upliftment. The hotel is for good stay. Highly recommended for couple and family holiday stay.
