Ramkrishna Ashrama Overview

Ranked 2 of 21 sightseeing in Belgaum

The building where Swami Vivekananda stayed for 12 days in 1892 has been gifted by the Government of Karnataka to Ramakrishna Mission in Belgaum. Swami Purushottamanandji, the President of this newly affiliated Mission since November 2000, has supervised the renovation of this monument and has also constructed a Sri Ramakrishna Temple, in 2004, January in the neighbouring land of this mission. This newly extended area has the Sarada Mantap, which is the kitchen and dining hall and the Sadhu Nivas, which is the quarter for the monks.

Just like all other Ashramas of Ramkishna Mission throughout the country, this one also lays stress on the charitable, spiritual and welfare activities, celebrations on the birthdays of Swami Vivekananda, Sri Ramkrishna and Holy Mother and regular bhajans in the morning and evening.

Programs are organised which are related to the students and youth and lectures, spiritual retreats and meditation classes feature on the list of activities. Monetary help in form of scholarships are extended to the meritorious and poor students from this Ashrama.

Calm and quiet temple of Sri Sri Ramakrishna Mission

This temple of the Ramakrishna mission was built and developed in the memory of swamiji ( Swami Vivekananda). As this is the location where Swamiji had stayed in Mr. Haripad Mitras house in 1892, for three days. The same place where swamji stayed is developed by mission and maintained as a mediation centre. Besides this stands the universal temple of Sri Sri Thakur ji ( Sri Sri Ramakrishna). Which is ideal location and place for meditation. This complex also houses a pictorial exhibition of Sri Sri Sarada Devi and Sri Sri Ramakrishna which depicts their life in short and a nice library, where you can get the books published by Mission. All those people who are interested in getting spiritual retreat should not miss this location.

Best place if some one is looking out for a peace

The Ashram is located in the military area hence it is surrounded by trees. Very peaceful. We visited in the evening time and it was Aarti time. Even though it was in a different language but the music was very soothing. The room where Vivekanand stayed is awesome. Best place if some one is looking out for a peace.

A peaceful place

You wont regret your decision if u end up visiting this ashram. Its a peaceful place built over quite a huge area. The ashram offers you a huge hall for meditation or any activity involving peace and silence. One can explore the ashram individually and if required there are many people to help you out.
