Reserve Forest Sanctuary Overview

Reserve Forest Sanctuary is an integral part of the Shimla Reserve Forest Sanctuary. It is covered with plantations of oak, pine and cedar and is situated on one of Asia’s largest watersheds. It is surrounded by the Indus River and is home to various species of flora, fauna and avifauna.

The natural vegetation in the sanctuary comprises deep green foliage of maple and chestnut trees. The sanctuary is the natural habitat of animal species that include monkey, jackal, baboon, barking deer and leopard. Many birds, such as the Himalayan eagle, pheasant, chikor and partridge can also be spotted in the sanctuary.

It is considered as the ideal venue for trekking, camping and picnic. The sanctuary also offers beautiful views of the Pir Panjal Mountains, located in Jammu and Kashmir.

    Shimla reserve forest

    Popularly for its rare variety of flora and fauna, this wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit for all wildlife enthusiast. Animals such as jackals, barking deer, monkeys and leopards are commonly sighted here.The Pir Panel ranges of Jammu and Kashmir can also be seen from here, making this an ideal spot for trekking and picnics.

    Good nature around but waste of time if no animals spotted

    Nothing much to do but just walk and look at the Deodar Trees around. Except for this no other exciting stuff gets your attention. Though eager to come across a reindeer, I saw none so for me it was a complete waste of time. But for nature lovers its a great place to reach and meditate at a corner in loneliness and serenity.
