Location of the hotel is excellent, rooms are quite spacious and comfortable. In executive room you will have balcony which will give you beautiful view of Kanchenjungha. Service is not up to the mark, food quality is very poor, overall your staying will be comfortable if you take food from outside restaurants like Keventers and Glenary's.
If you are looking for a nice and clean hotel room from which you can look at Mt. Kanchenjunga while lying down on your bed, or standing at your window, or while getting dressed, or from your balcony while sipping the golden brew, then stop at The Retreat Resort and look no further. Located at a two- minute walk from Raj bhavan, The Retreat commands a spectacular view of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The roof of its open terrace is one of the best public viewing spots in Darjeeling. The Chowrasta Mall is a eight - minute walk along a lonely path with tall, green mountain trees on one side and the beautiful Kanchenjunga on the other. The Retreat also has a nice, open terrace facing the mountains. Here, you could sit for hours enjoying the magnificent view while Reading your favourite book or sipping tea But the resort is not without limitations. We found the breakfast to be very poor. No variety, extremely basic. This hotel also has to catch up on its service and hospitality. No member of the staff (except Raju and Bhaskar) seemed much enthusiastic about his duty. They were not rude or offensive but just disinterested. It was as if they were not happy to be doing what they were. Having said this, if you do not particularly care for what you eat first thing in the morning when you are on a holiday or if you can manage to do with indifferent service, go for Retreat Resort. The location will more than adequately make up for these minor irritants.
The retreat hotel is truly a great treat of coming Darjeeling. It provided a wonderful hotel experience From receiving a welcome drink on arrival to our final check out, the time spent here was very enjoyable. We stayed there for 3 days. Very good food and lovely rooms. The service was excellent and staff was very attentive and friendly. Elgin and its people won our hearts with their genuine and warm smiles, and personalized attention. Even at the breakfast & Dinner table, And all of it was very genuine and from the heart. Its just a 2 minute walk to the mall road. The hotels lobby is very well furnished with a colonial touch to it. Food was excellent giving a nice variety of choices. It was a good experience overall.
I had this visit planned out in Dec'13 end. Seeking out reviews from like minded advisers and nurturing my quest for effortless tourist experience I found the Destination as my final selection. Being an nature enthusiast myself both my partner and I went forward for the same and now we are glad that we could do so without any second guessing Hotel staff is very courteous, rooms are very well laid out, even at the time of chilling days in February first week, we were showered with both excellent reception and room service. Detailing and particular reference to local whereabouts for tourists were very well taken care for by the hotel staff Meals were timely prepared and served by ever smiling staff. Mount Kanchanjunga view from the hotel was one of the best Definitely one of my best experiences till date and would definitely recommend fellow tourists to give this place a definite try.
We Visited Darjeeling on a romantic holiday in mid of Feb'14. The experience with hotel was astonishing. Comfortable, spacious rooms that offer vibrant view of Kanchenjunga from the window and balcony. Prefer the top floor for better experience. Wooden flooring and wooden panelling adds charm of old-world times. Hotel staff are courteous and will help out in resolving all your queries. Restaurant ambience is nice with good quality food but taste needs improvement. Other than the room, there is no other recreational activity in hotel. One can sit in the open lobby or just go upstairs to visit 'The Mall'. Overall experience was good and can be preferred for family outing.
The overall stay in the hotel was very good. The hotel was very big. The appearance of the hotel was good. There was circus going on in the hotel. The room was spacious, neat, clean and well maintained. All the basic amenities provided in the room were working fine. There was good view from the room. The quality of the food was excellent. There was no delay in check-in & check-out procedure. There were many activities organized by the hotel. Sightseeing trip was organized by the hotel. The hotel was value for money. I will recommend the hotel to other travellers. There is no suggestion for hotel improvement.
We went for a family vacation. Along with our family our friend's family was also there. The hotel provided the perfect set up for our relaxation. It was just adjacent to Governor's Bungalow and behind the Mall. It was a perfect place just away. The rooms were big, spacious with all modern amenities. The bed was very comfortable. The view from the wide glass window was breath taking. We spend hours just sitting on the couch and viewing the Mt. Kanchendzonga sipping through freshly made tea. The hotel staff was extremely courteous and always eager to serve you the best. The food was spicy but delicious. They always serve you with a smile and have a very positive attitude. Over all it was a comfortable and a very pleasant stay. It is recommended to make a prior booking before travelling since rooms are limited and try to stay on the 2nd floor for a better view.
It was a very good hotel. No difficulty in finding the hotel. It was in the city and was far from railway station. It is behind Raj bhavan near the market place. Appearance was very good. Staff and service was very good. Rooms were spacious and very well maintained but there was no view, but the amenities were working well. No delay in check-in and check-out. Food was very good with all the varieties and had only north Indian food. It took some time to serve. There were no activities. Parking facility was not there. Sightseeing was included in the package. It was value for money and I would like to recommend others.
