Billions of years old rock and temple on the top

Three temples from the foothill to the top are the main attractions. From the top sunset is supposed to be beautiful. But I could reach much after sunset. They all seem to be powerful gods for the locals. I saw a girl offering a banana bunch since Thayamanaver made safe delivery. All temples are colourful. The driving route is in the middle, you can go down few steps up and see At the driving route there is a temporary resting place where the elephant entertains and blesses you. There is a yagna mantap where Lord Shiva and Parvathi come and witness the yagna personally. You can go down to Manikka Vinayagar temple carrying your shoes in your hands to reach the Teppakulam. The car can be asked to come to the bus stand opposite St. John's church. Though there is Rs. 5 fee to climb the stairs, nobody bothers about it.

Visit to Trichy is not complete without going to Rock Fort

Rock fort stands tall in the city and can be seen from quite a distance. There are close to 320 steps to reach the top. However there are various stops in between and you will not feel the strain at all. On the way up, there is a temple dedicated to lord shiva. Further up is a shrine dedicated to Taayumaanavar a saint. The temple at the top is devoted to Lord Ganesha. The view from the top is really beautiful giving a glimse of the city and the Cauvery river.Parking at the bottom is really a pain. The lanes are extremely narrow and the road gets blocked completely when 2 vehicles comes in opposite direction. We almost went round the rock fort twice before hitting the main road. The place can be visited in the morning or evening. After 10:30am it might get too hot

Very nice to visit this temple

It is small temple on top of the Rock Fort. Out of normal routine life, one can climb up to the temple to relax. On the way there is Thayumanavar Temple. It is a very calm temple. Out of normal routine life one can climb up to the temple to relax. On the way there is Thayumanavar Temple. I like very much this temple with Ambal Sannadhi. It is very calm temple that especially on working days than weekends. After the Uchi Pillaiyar darshan sitting on the rock and relaxing for a while have nothing to compensate, that too in evening hours (6-8pm).

Awesome Lord Shiva temple located on the hillock

The temple, dedicated to that curer of all that is vigna is a must visit for any one visiting Trichy. Trip to trichy is not complete unless one visits the temple located on hillock. The view from the top is splendid and one can see the majestic Gopuram of Srirangam from there. We visited the temple in the evening and it was all the more beautiful. The Lord looks upon you showering his blessings. The idol is very beautiful. While on a trip to Rock Fort one must not miss visiting temple dedicated to Lord Shiva which is just below the temple of Ganesha. Here the Lord is known by the name of 'Thayumanvar' meaning he also acted as mother when required.

Rock Fort - A Temple situated at the market place

This temple is situated at the market itself near Chatram Bus stand. It is said to be built on a single stone rock around 80m high. Aerial view of Trichy city can be seen from top of rock. This is famous for temple at the top. Stairs are cut into rock to reach the temple and is covered also, so there is no problem if one goes during day time also. There are some other temples also, en-route, around stairs. This place is surrounded by a big retail market.

Very impressive

This place is indeed worth visiting, it is a very old place with paintings and stone carvings situated on a big rock hill. You'll have to climb quite a lot of stairs, but all the way up, there a new things to see. From the top there is a great view over the river and the city.

Rock Fort, The Landmark of Trichy

The most popular and spectacular attraction of the city is Rock Fort. Actually this is the landmark of the city. It is an 83-meter high rock and 300 feet above the city. The ascent to the rock hill is by a covered stone staircase from the south through 437 steps made out of the rock. Climbing the steps in itself is interesting as well a tiring drill. You can relax sitting on the benches erected along the way and visiting small temples around the way. The summit has a temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaka commonly called 'Uchi Pillaiyar'.Don't forget to carry your camera since what it offers is such a spectacular scenery and opportunity.Atop the rock gives a magnificent panoramic view of the township. The best time is evening and night. You will forget your tiredness the moment you reach the top. The cool breeze will relax you immensely. You can create poetry with your camera from here. At the foot of the rock is the Teppakulam, a large masonry tank with a small and graceful Mandapam in the centre.

Oldest Rock formation of the World

Also known as the Ucchi Pillayar Koil, Malai Kovil, Malaikottai, the Rock Fort is a unique experience. At about 272 feet high the rock itself is considered to be as old as the rocks of Greenland and considered one of the oldest formations in the world. This is also one of the unique locations where one finds a Ganesha temple at the summit. Built during the Pallava era. There are some unfinished caves and the temples of Thayumanswamny(Shiva) and Ganesha.
