Secretariat Overview

Ranked 38 of 104 sightseeing in Panjim

Secretariat is 16th century Palace of Goa that is situated along the side of the river in Panjim. This is the oldest structure, which at once used to be the palace of a Muslim ruler, Adil Shah, a Sultan of Bijapur. In 1759, this palace was converted as an official residence of Viceroy by the Portuguese.

After several renovations and reconstruction, this Islamic structure was transformed in a colonial building. The architecture of the building possesses iron pillars and sloping tiled roofs. At present, it serves as the house for Goa state legislative assembly and is guarded by heavy security.
