Worth a visit

Location: The Palace is a little outside the main city area. It is preferable to get your own vehicle to visit & hire an auto. Lake, Deers, Ducks near the place are a also a pretty good sight.Exterior: Garden to sit around is good. You will find many families & group of friends hanging around in the garden. View behind the palace is surrounded by residential buildings & bungalows near the main entrance reduce the charm of the place. However palace front has a mesmerizing charm of its own.Interior: The Ticket to visit the interior is available near main entrance of the Palace & not near the Palace entry gate. Distance between the Main gate & the gate to Palace interior is 10 minutes walk. Therefore buy the tickets, when you Enter the main gate. You are not allowed to visit the 1st, 2nd floor or the clock tower. You also need to remove your shoes to visit Museum interior.Thing to see: Frames of the Maharaja Sambhaji & Maharaja Shahuji & others. Well preserved hanging animal heads, Ash trays made out of Animal, Animal legs used as Table legs, Wooden carved furniture, Weapons, Clothes etc.Overall: It is definitely worth a visit.

Chhatrapati Shahuji Museum

Located just a kilometer & half from central bus stand & is one of the tourist attractions. Actually its a palace partly turned into museum having details of historical Kolhapur weaponry & flora & fauna of the region. A must see spot. A surprising thing is a big lake in front of palace with many deers, peacocks & many birds, just a treat to watch them only from few meters. As a local, I visit the place many times. I like to see the place again & again to experience the tranquility, soundness, serene & pristine environment of the palace .. DR VIJAY CHAVAN.

Can visit once

Visited palace of Shahu Maharaj which is now converted into museum having a fees of Rs. 25 per person. A medium size palace having not a great collection in their exhibition. Museum is not well maintained, use of mobile and camera are not allowed inside palace. Yet we can visit once in reference of great Chatrapati of Marathas.

Beautiful palace

Very beautiful place of Shahuji Chhatrapati Maharaj. A must see monument. Inside there is museum which has artifacts of the Maratha king and his ancestors. His rooms, court room, various photos of Maratha queens and their clothes, degrees held by the king and queen, photos of various Maratha forts, weapons used by the king and the army in that time.

Very neatly arranged

The Palace was built by King Shahu. Palace is very nice as you can see from photos. Old things are orderly arranged. NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED. Most beautiful thing in the Palace is the Durbar hall, it is one of the best hall I have ever seen. Variety of arms are there. Worth visiting. 25 rupees entry fee.

Excellent monument with poor maintenance

The museum is equipped with weapons, cloths, utensils used by Chhatrapati and his warriors. Animals hunted by Chhatrapati are also there on display. But the museum is not properly maintained even though they collect entry fee of Rs. 25 per person. Outside the museum, there are live deers, ducks, ostrich etc. Plenty of parking space available. Good attraction for children.

Collection of old things neatly arranged

Nice location in Kolhapur, old things are arranged neatly in this palace, one of the great attraction in Kolhapur where lots of people come and see the things which has been used by Shahu Maharaj. One small average hotel in front of palace where you get food in lower rate but it is ok type.

Heritage place that depicts the Maharaj's life

The museum is surrounded by parks, a lake and a zoo that attract tourists. The museum is just amazing. Its the place of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj still their family stays in the same Palace. Half of the Palace is converted for museum. Displaying arms, weapons, guns, and other articles which were used during that period. There are stuffed dead animals as well which the Maharaja killed.
