Not a good place.

It's just a museum not much to watch. Located in the mall road. I won't suggest to visit this place as it's not much interesting. There is not much to see in this place.

Overall nice place to learn about past of Shimla

This state museum is on the topmost height and on the steep slope so would suggest elderly people who can't walk long distance not to visit this place. The museum is free to enter and have nice view of valley from top. Must carry items like food snacks and water bottle as there are no stores available. Overall nice place for people who love to learn about past of Shimla where monuments are preserved.

Victorian Mansion As State Museum Shimla

Shimla State Museum is Housed in an old Victorian Mansion, carefully altered to house the Museum, on a Hilltop known as Inveram, striking mountain views attracts a lot from here. The State Museum Shimla was opened on January 26, 1974 to collect and preserve the ancient artistic, historical, archaeological and ethnological human works in order that the future generation may have access to the cultural treasure it has inherited from the past. Since then the it has played a distinguished role. This building remained the residence of Lord William Beresford, Lord William Bentinck and later By Sir Edwin Colon and Edward Law. This step or any such step in the world help the visitors to know about the ancient culture and heritage.

Beautiful place to visit - Not just a museum

Lovely location - difficult climb though. Did not know where 2 hours were spent. Great artefacts from all over India. Good collection and well-maintained.The collection of relics - mostly statues and coins are good. It's a small museum compared to the larger cousins all over other cities, but offers a great glimpse in Himachal state.

Shimla State Museum - World's most attracting sight for visiting. I had visited last month there and here too many old things to see, we enjoyed a lot here. We had enjoyed the company of foreigner tourists there. Memorable moments throughout my life. In future I will suggest this wonderful sight to all my friends and colleagues. Totally enjoyed.

Good to visit

Those who are interested to see museums, for them it is good. Not too small and not too big you can cover it within 30 minute or you may waste 2-3 hours, as per your liking. Free guides are available here, it is better to avail that service.
