The Shimsha Dam, also known as the Markonahalli Dam, is constructed across the Shimsha River at a height of 731.57 m above sea level. The dam was built by Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the King of Mysore, for irrigating 6,070 hectares of land.

There is a pair of earth dams at this site that extends up to 1,470 m on either side. The dam can store around 68 million cu. m. water. The prominent fish in the dam are arulius barb and orange-fin labeo.

Feel the Dam

It is nice to see so much of water. The drive to the falls are on one side huge water. It makes one feel that India is very fertile. One can not get permission to get into the dam. Just feel that dam is there.

Saw it from a distance!

the road was blocked so could not go near, but I saw the dam from a distance!
