Simhavahini Temple Overview

Ranked 6 of 13 sightseeing in Jairambati

Simhavahini Temple is dedicated to Goddess Simhavahini, also known as Goddess Jagaddhatri, among natives. This temple was constructed by Sarada Devi. It is believed that once Sarada Devi undertook a fast to get rid of an acute disease from which she was suffering for a long time. At that time, Goddess Simhavahini appeared as a blacksmith with her mother, Shyama Sundari. They suggested some medicines to Sarada Devi that were prepared using the mud collected from the shore of the tank. Sarada Devi was cured after taking these medicines. After this incident, Sarada Devi regularly collected a small amount of mud from this sacred place, in a small casket and gave it to Radhu, one of her nieces, who used it to treat villagers.

The present structure of the temple is the exact replica of the older one that was damaged few years ago. The small shine located near the main temple is enshrined with idols of Sri Chandi, Mahamaya and Goddess Manasa. Many tourists visit this temple during the annual Durga Pooja.
