I heard about Wood briar bunglaws from a friend who also travels a lot. Since it was a long week end, I was looking for a place to stay with family and children. Booking was quite easy and quick. Staff had enough patience to answer my multiple rounds of questions We drove from Bangalore on April 30th 2015. We reached Pollachi around 7. 30am. The last 35 kms from Pollachi to Valparai town would take close to 2hours due to ghat roads. The view as we are climbing up was breathtaking, one side of dam view and other side thick forest, there are about 40 hairpin bends. We spotted few Nilgiri Thar's. We reached Sirikundra estate by 9. 40am. The best deal was at the time of booking it was agreed for early check-in which is a rare case in these kind of resorts. Staff was friendly, helped us to check-in to our rooms. Breakfast was arranged for us as we had informed earlier, even they had followed up on previous evening about our check-in time. We were impressed with the rooms, bathrooms and balcony in the first look. It was a very delicious and healthy breakfast. After sleeping for few hours, we went out for sightseeing places, all sightseeing places would close by 4pm, we were not aware of it but, we had stopped the car and took some photographs next to some tea estates. Dinner was ultimate, although it was simple menu, it was prepared with lot of care. By then we had decided not to roam around much and to stay inside the property enjoying the richness of bungalow rooms, each decorative items kept for display or for the usage of guest's had a heritage look. Lot of books and photographs related to the environment are kept for display. Next morning a series of whistle woke me up, it took lot of time for me to understand that it was a bird's chirping. Lot of birds around, and it was a paradise for bird watchers. We visited 2-3 sightseeing places around, water was less in the Dam and there was a visit arranged to Briar tea factory and Monika Bungalow, which is their one more property. We enjoyed the swimming pool. There are two huge Champak trees next to the pool, which had kept the whole premises with good fragrance. Evening coffee next to the poolside was a one of the happiest moment. Good Bhajjis was served. It is an ultimate place to capture good photographs. Roam around the property with your camera Staff is retrained. Dining hall was quite neat and spacious. They give good tips and suggestions about local sightseeing places. Wildlife spotting in this trip: Nilgiri Thar, Bison ( Indian Gaur ), Peacock, Grey Jungle Fowl, Mongoose, Elephant and lot of birds and Monkeys like Langur's and other types Suggestions to other Travellers: Tea estates can be risky also, there will be lot of Snakes and Mongooses around, and we saw a Bison hidden inside a tea estate. It was sitting and was not so easily visible unless a local person showed it to us. You can be slightly alert before you go inside the estates. There are three rooms inside the bungalow, 2 are with Balcony space and one room with out Balcony. You can make sure while booking if you are looking for a balcony space. Carry good Binoculars and camera.
