Lord Damodar Deity Was Shifted, From The Original Temple

Like other temples and their deities were haunted by cruel Portuguese, as the initial settlement of Margao grew from the site of the ancient Damodar Temple may be of Kadamba period in 1565. The original temple was demolished and the temple ritual tank was filled up, to prepare for the construction site of Church, and the chief deity Lord Damodar a form of Lord Shiva or Childhood name of Lord Krishna, was carried across Zuari Aghanashini River in the Sonde Rulers area where the villagers of Rivona welcomed the new deities and offered land and other facilities for their rehabilitation. The temple is situated at the border of Quepem and Sanguem talukas, village Zambaulim about 22 kms From Margao on the banks of Kushavati river. Though the temple premise may be new but the deity and faith are the same as before Portuguese.
