Temple with a blend of mythology and history

A sprawling campus dedicated to the Lord Ranganatha reclining on the serpent with a splendid main tower (gopuram). Interesting links to the Ramayana and later royal connections to the history of this region

My visit to Ranganatha Swamy

Don't take handycam are still cameras they don't allow inside the temple . Visiting any time in morning is good time. Temple staff is very helpful in guiding to have peaceful darshan of Lord Ranganatha. Don't forget ask about main gopurum we missed it, you can see it from near Gharba Gudi.

South India Sculpture

The place is the symbol of fantastic art of old ancient Indian sculpture. The temple complex is one of the largest temple complexes. We can find the Tallest Temple Gopuram in the Temple which makes us feel to stay there a long time. Walk through the temple which offers us a great experience in the olden art work.

A great temple

A very large temple complex. The main tower (Raja Gopuram) is the tallest in Tamilnadu and has exqusit sculptures. There are many more towers inside. The whole complex looks like a fort. The main sannidhi is the Sri RanganathaSwamy temple. The lord is in Sayana posture. ( Flat laying down) A huge idol. It is thrilling to have the darshan.Depending on the day and time the crowd differs.Next is the Sannidhi of his consort (thayar)nearby. There are nearly 40 Sannidhis inside, a 1000 pillar hall(Aayiram Kala mandapam) with great sculptures. It will take atleast 3 to 4 hours to see the entire complex.Prasadam consisting of various types of rice and snacks are available near the main Sannidhi. Drinking water and hand wash facilities are available.Special arrangements for physically handicapped is available.Temple is open from 5 am to 11am and from 4pm to 10pm.

Now a days the temple visit is taking a lot of time due to overcrowding visitors from TN and other states. The temple cleanliness has been ensured and good support given to elders by electric open vehicles moving from Ranganathar sannithi to Mahalakshmi Sannithi. Beautiful and artistically made garlands available for sale near the entrance of Goddess temple. Cameras are not allowed inside the karpagraha & inside the temple. However one can take pictures near the garden, Karuda mandapa and in Praharas. Tamarind rice, curd rice, Laddu, Vadai prasad available all the time. There are so many sannithis dedicated for Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. God Danvantri & God Narasimha bless the devotees. It is a huge temple and at least two hours required to take a complete view of all; One has to keep at least 2-3 hours for the darshan of Lord Ranganatha Swamy. Lungi is not allowed for gents. There are en number of shops inside the temple premises and outside there are plenty.

Colourful gopurams - Huge island in River Cauvery

This temple gopurams are very colourful. Srirangam is an island between Cauvery and Kollidam rivers. The whole island is temple property. First 4 prakarams are given on 1000 years lease to private persons who live there and do business. Lord Ranganatha is lying down posture. The shoes stand has no foot cover. Better to carry a pair of socks so that you can walk from car to temple entrance and from one temple to another in summer. Also the feet get dirtied so much that you need to scrub and wash them after finishing temple. Better to carry water bottles with you. There is no water available inside the temple to drink once you are in the line to have darshan . Sri Ramanujar's body was kept in another temple on the side. One has to see the nails and eyes to believe it is a real dead body. There is a lot of walking around. But you can ask your car driver to come to one of the side entrance and go to another temple.

I visited this beautiful temple in Tiruchirapalli aka Trichy and found it to be really amazing in terms of the arts and sculptures. It is dedicated to lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. There was a long line for darshans since morning at 5 am and I had to get a fastrack darshans ticket of Rs 250 even at 7 am in the morning.Overall it is the no. 1 temple in Tiruchirapalli for the tourists. So it's a must visit.

FAbulous Temple

This temple is very huge and there are various sannithi's and you might spend a whole day visiting. They have recently cleaned up the Temple. We visited the Temple in December and the Margazhi Utsavan was going on where in the lord was dressed as Anal and Anal as the Lord. It was such a delight to see. One small tip to the visitors to avoid disappointment there is no Darshan between 5 and 7 p. M. In the evening. You can havve good Darshan if you are at the Temple at 5. 15-5. 30 in the miring and buy the RS. 250 ticket. Darshan however starts at 6. 15. Tickets are quickly sold out. So please make sure you are there at 5.
