Sringeri Sharada Peetha Overview

Ranked 1 of 64 sightseeing in Chikmagalur

Sringeri Sharada Peetha, also known as Dakshinamnaya Sharada Peetham, is one of the four Hindu Advaita Mutts established by Adi Shankaracharya. The Mutt follows the principles of Yajur Veda, described by Krishna. As per the Mutt culture established by Adi Shankaracharya, the head is called Jagadguru, teacher of the world.

Jagadguru also carries Shankaracharya as a title in his name. The seat of transcendental wisdom, known as Vyakhyana Simhasana, is presently held by Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswami. He is 36th in the unbroken lineage of Acharyas, and oversees Mutt activities and works to sustain Sanatana Dharma, while preaching thousands of disciples.

A sculpture of Goddess Sharada, the Goddess of Knowledge, is established in the shrine by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Situated in the midst of lush green mountain ranges of the Sahyadri, the town of Sringeri can be approached by road.

Vast and yet serene

Sharada Peetha at Sringeri is the first out of four peethas established by Adi Shankaracharya. The religious spot has the beautiful statue of Goddess Sharadamba and temples of Vidyashankara, Adi Shankaracharya temple and Torana Ganapati. Thousands of visitors visit this place everyday and they are all served with meals both at noon and night. Visitors can also see river Tunga flowing and quite a few fishes swimming across it. The Gardens in this place have a variety of plants and trees making the place more attractive. It's one of the well maintained Hindu temples in Karnataka. The landscape filled with greenery in and around Sringeri creates a sense of pleasantness to the eyes.

A must visit place

I had visited Sringeri last time about 12-15 years back. The place is now completely changed and has undergone a lot improvements. The temple premises is very well-maintained. We could have Goddess Sharadamba darshanam peacefully and multiple times. Aksharabhyasam is done at temple premises from 8 AM to 2 PM. It's conducted in batches of 30-40 kids each. Each batch takes around 10-15 mins. Cost is 250/-Lunch and dinner is also arranged for the people visiting Temple. The Roads to Sringeri are very well-maintained. Lots of parking place near to temple.Coming to Accommodation:The temple authorities have built around 5-6 buildings with lots of rooms for the people visiting Sringeri. The cost is also very minimal (300/- per room). Getting the room might be difficult if it s a public holiday or a long weekend. In that case there are even private lodges available around the temple. Must must visit place.

Must Visit once in life

The temple is simple compared to other large South Indian Temple, but what it has is huge focus on Learning, very well maintained and disciplined temple which even I was surprised to find. A Place for learning. I do hope that temple administration set up a small museum of Hindu Renaissance and put some more easy information about the place.

A must visit

We had been here in the October for our daughter's Aksharabhyasam. It is one of the best temples I have ever visited. It's a very beautiful and peaceful place with very less crowd. You can spend some time peacefully and capture some beautiful pics. A river is beside the temple where kids can feed and touch the fish and play. Temple is also very well-maintained. There would be Elephants also roaming inside the temple (of course under guidance of keeper). A place to visit for all age groups. Don't miss to visit.

Good temple

By visiting the place we can know about the God Sharada Mate story and also about the builder of that temple. We can come to know more information about the temple when you visit.

A visit to Sharada Temple was worth

It's worth travelling. We have visited this place many a times. But this time it's little busy, we didn't get temple room for our stay. We went for a private lodge, it's little expensive and not so good. But Sharada Devi Darshan made us happy. We spent 1 hour in the temple.

Pray peacefully

The temple has a good administration to manage it efficiently, the temple is maintained very neatly. There is abundant silence around the temple, the garden across the river belonging to the Sringeri Sharada Math is also very well maintained. I got a lot of peace while visiting this place, there is always an urge to visit it at least once a year, especially in the monsoon.

Visit the temple during noon

Nice temple to visit, very clean and even lunch is served. Need to sit down on the ground. Should visit the Mutt across the bridge, if you do have time it is worth meditating and participate in the aarthi.

Beautiful temple to vist all round the year

Peaceful and big temple with Tunga river flowing besides the temple. There is a mutt as well on the other side of the temple. Temple architecture and carvings are great. Don't miss the free meals in the temple - lunch / dinner. Basic but tasty food.

Amazing Temple

Amazing temple and the math. You can visit any time but evenings are great. Tranquil location. Great river with lot of fish. The Shankar math is excellent and you can see the current shankaracharya in the evening. Temple complex has lot of temples including the main deities Shiva and Sharada.Food is served for all the people and you have lot of good hotels closeby. Strongly suggested for all the Hindus. Temple is very close to other attractions too. You can plan Udupi, Hornadu, Mangalore, Kollur, Kateel and other important pilgrimages. Few of the roads are bad(especially to Horanadu)
