The architectural excellence and the tranquil green surroundings

St. Mark's Cathedral, named after Saint Mark is located at the west end of M. G. Road The Cathedral celebrated its 200 years bicentenary in 2007-08. The architecture of the Cathedral is colonial style, modelled on the lines of the St Paul's Cathedral, London, with dome, semi-circular chancel and roman arches, entrance having elaborate wood work with ornate carvings. The ceilings and the domes are majestically done and the bell is the most well maintained church bells in India. The stained glass work adds to the beauty of the Cathedral. The spacious grounds of the Cathedral with numbers a trees offers a peaceful refuge from the maddening city traffic. We spend around two hours there and we could see people coming to the Cathedral irrespective of religion or faith.

Very peaceful and well maintained

I visited this place once with my friend. In the middle of crowded MG Road, I could not believe there can be such a peaceful place. The structure is very old but beautifully maintained. You achieve absolute peace and calmness of mind as soon as you enter the premises. Apart from mental peace and religious aspects, this is also a must visit place for lovers of old architectural heritages.
