The Sugriveswar Temple is believed to have been built in the 12th century. The complex of this temple has two towers called Vimanam, out of which one is dedicated to Amman and the other one is devoted to Lord Shiva. The Amman Temple structure reflects the architecture style prevalent during the Pandya Kingdom. This temple has various other structures belonging to the Chola Dynasty. The entrance of the Shiva Temple is adorned with two statues of Nandi, a bull. Around five Shivalingams are situated in the corridors of the temple complex.

10th century temple with puja

It is an old temple. Well maintained by Archaeological society of india with a children's play area and nice flower plants around the temples. It is 13 kilometers from the town. Taxi charges Rs. 600 without AC.Even the roof of the temple is done with granite slabs. There is puja in the main temple and Amman temple with pujaris. Apart from that the smaller Eshwara temples also get puja by locals. A woman was placing food on a banana leaf for Sanieshwara when I visited.Dhakshinamurthy is on the wall of the temple. Devotees go there with a ladder and do puja.Double Nandis are there in front. There is a story about the temple. (See Photo and read).Huge old tree in front of the temple is also well maintained.Very clean and peaceful temple in the outskirts.
