Surayanarayana Temple Overview

Ranked 17 of 489 sightseeing in Bangalore
Suryanarayana Temple is located in Domlur on old airport road in the heart of the city. Dedicated to the Sun God, it is one of the most prominent temples in the world dedicated to Lord Suryanarayana.
Built in typical Chola architecture in granite with a huge tower covered with various colourful figures, the Suryanarayana Temple was built by Shri Patel D. R. Krishna Reddy in 1995.
The idol of Suryanarayana is 3.25 feet in height and was brought from the Badrinath Temple along with an ornate arch. Below the deity, the idols of Kashyapa and Aditi are placed. Other idols seen are Brahma, Vaishnavi, Nagaraja, Ugranarasimha, Saraswati, Panchamukhi Ganesha and reclining Adi Sheshasayi.
Though thousands of pilgrims visit the Suryanarayana Temple on a daily basis, the preferred time to visit is during the annual fair of Suryanarayana Swamy held on the Rathasaptami day in January. The 32 feet chariot is brought out only during the fair during which the pilgrims are allowed to pull the chariot.
One can also visit the Lord Shiva Temple at Murugeshpalaya which is located nearby.
A must visit for the whole family, the temple is easily accessible by bus, auto rickshaw and car.

Worth visiting in Summer too because it is above the hill

This temple is worth visiting even in Summer as it is cool and located above the hill. It has "good parking space". It is very peaceful place as "we visited at less crowd time but normally it is rare to have that much peacefulness". Especially on Saturday we can do"Swami Seva" by us only. On that days devotees will be allowed for yoga classes who wish to visit with fee 300/-. Another more "plus point is that shopping mall is nearby" so we can go for shopping after visiting

Great temple with modern facilities

Its a great temple with modern facilities with heart breaking sculptures. You should ideally visit this temple on a Sunday as Surya god is worshipped especially on Sunday where some special pujas are also performed.
