One of the biggest temple of South India

We visited the temple of Arulmigu Swami Nellaiappar and Arultharum Kanthimathi Amble on an evening. The temple is situated in the heart of the city and this is one of the largest temples in South India. We visited the complex consist of two huge temples, one for Lord Shiva (Nellaiappar temple) and the other for his consort Parvathi (Kanthimathi Ammai temple). These two temples are linked by a big terraced hall namely Sangili Mandapam that has life sized sculptures adoring the pillars. The main deity of Kanthimathi Nellaiyappar Temple is a 'Suyambu Lingam' or a Shiva Lingam which erupted from underneath the earth. The Nandi mandapam has a fairly big statue of Nandi (the bull God), similar to those at Tanjore and Rameswaram. Other mandapams in the temple include Oneal Mandapam and the 1000 pillared hall. The 1000 pillared hall is famous for the celestial wedding of Kanthimathi Ammai with Nellaiyappar. This is one of the biggest temple I have seen. Must and first visit place of Tirunelveli.

Nice Temple

If you go in the evening you can participate in the Sriracha Pooja. It took only half hour for me inside the temple though it is very big one. After completing my pooja I went out for shopping and the market is very near to it.

Exquisite Shiva and Nataraja Temple (Copper) Sabha

A must place to visit in Tirunelveli for the beauty and spiritual significance of the temple. Located in a busy location, the temple is expansive with every bit giving us a deep impression about our heritage and culture.Lord Nataraja's Copper Sabha is present in the prakaram and is an architectural beauty. Kubera Lingam is present here, one of the 3 places where you can see this deity.
