Spiritually evolved destination for Buddhists

This monastery is located at a height of 1000 feet in Tabo. This monastery is really auspicious for the monks and is considered the sacred of all after the Komlin Gompa of Tibet. The outward appearance is like a number of mud houses but it had beautiful murals on the wall making it an asset of art. This monastery is also known as the Ajanta of the Himalayas.

A Historic place with antique paintings

This Monastery is one of oldest Monastery of the world. It has some very old time of wall painting which is preserved by covering the inside wall and protect this from exposing to any kind of light (like sun light, camera light etc. ) A new Monastery is also constructed nearby to this old one, which is worth a visit.

An amazing construction

Tabo is a small village on the way to kaza which is district head quatres of Spiti region. One of the touristy destination. This monastery is its main attraction along with the caves and a small temple. These days there's a new monastery being built along side this old one but is still under construction. This old monastery opens up around 8 but monks are available only after 10 or so. There are multiple rooms with pictures of Buddha and others and beautiful clothes made using natural colors. Usually somebody gives the historic background to tourists. It's made of a special mud mixture. You can go and see the new monastery as well which has an amazing picture of Buddha still work in progress. Its said that Dalai Lama would retire here.

Interesting place and superb mud architecture

Its a monastery estd. in 996 A.D. The whole monastery is made up of mud and there is a spritual feeling as one enters into the monastery. Unlike other monastries this drawings were made on the wall of mud but the colours were still bright. There is no electrical source inside the temple but still there is light sources enough for the whole temple. The architecture is superb.
