Tapola Overview

Ranked 10 of 57 sightseeing in Mahabaleshwar

Nestled at the confluence of Koyna and Solshi rivers, Tapola is indeed a treat to the eyes. Situated at a distance of 25 km from Mahabaleshwar, Tapola is home to one of the biggest dams (Shivsagar) in Maharashtra, the lake formed by which stretches to 90 km. Tapola also offers a stunning view of the Sahyadri Hills.

The way to reach Tapola from Mahabaleshwar is laced with picturesque landscapes on either side of the road that will take you to a different world altogether. Besides sightseeing in Tapola, one can also enjoy the water scooter rides, kayaking and boating in the beautiful Tapola Lake.

Tapola also plays host to many enchanting strawberry farms and nurseries of Gerbera. Get mesmerised by the simplistic beauty of this place.

The ‘Kas Plateau’ turns into the 'Valley Of Flowers' during monsoon season, especially from the month of August, making Tapola nothing short of a fairy-tale land. If you plan to visit Tapola between August to November, 'Kas Pathar' is a must-visit where, during this season, the orchids bloom and one can witness as many as 150 varieties of bright flower in full blossom.

The beauty and simplicity of Tapola have rightly earned it the title as ‘Kashmir of the West’.

Nice trip in motorised boat

We parked our car and then we hired a motorised boat, 45 minutes ride in Tapola lake. Did not take much time in booking ticket and getting a boat. Could get nice view and photos. A refreshing ride overall!!

Beautiful and clean lake

This lake is formed by the backwaters of Koyna River. The water is very clean and the lake is very big. Not much to do here except boating. No proper place to eat. Visit it for the scenic lake and keep enough time to return to Mahabaleshwar. The road from Mahabaleshwar to Tapola is very scenic. If you are bored of all the 'Points', visit this lake.

Good place many places to visit around

Good place for boating, huge water body. Boating is also bit cheap and on request extend the round. There are many points which can be covered in boating like forts and temples which can be accessed through water.

A good place to ride and have fun

Tapola is approx 3-4 hours drive from Mahabaleshwar you can halt at 2-3 places on the way for some refreshments and for some great view and photography. On reaching Tapola you can opt for mode of water transport (boat, jet boat etc) depending on your budget and visit some 3-4 points which are located in the midst of the river and are accessible only by boats. Try water scooter ride, its real fun.

Must visit this point

After visiting Venna Lake our car was rushing for a beautiful place which is 25 km far from Mahabaleshwar. On the way of journey, the scenic beauty on both side of the road is very charming. Road was not so busy so the journey was very peaceful. At last after half an hour journey we've reached that beautiful place called Tapola. It's famously called the mini Kashmir also. It's a satellite village of Mahabaleshwar. The main attraction in Tapola is the Shivsagar Lake. Wonderful lake view. Captured many snaps from different angles of this lake. Its scenic beauty is much better than Venna Lake. Passed nice time at the lake site with a cup of tea. Must visit this point.

The best place Mahabaleshwar has

The best place Mahabaleshwar has, is Tapola. It's awesome. Horses, mountains, a tree point, ice creams, etc. Everything is good. The local people are very nice and also, the guides are good. The climate is cool so do wear woollen clothes. Horse riding is a must.
