Taraporewala Aquarium Overview

Ranked 21 of 769 sightseeing in Mumbai

Taraporewala Aquarium is the lone aquarium in Mumbai, located at the Marine Drive. Built in 1951, this aquarium is named after Mr. Taraporewala, a Parsee philanthropist who donated a huge sum for its construction. There are more than 100 species of freshwater and marine fishes in the aquarium, including seven different types of coral fish from the Lakshadweep Islands.

Tourists can spot turtles, sharks, moray eels, small starfish, stingrays and many other species in this aquarium. There is a room at the aquarium that is occupied by fossils, rare sea shells andeven some preserved fish in bottles. Exhibits at the aquarium epitomise the variety of marine life in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.

A proposal has been put forward to convert the aquarium into an underwater oceanarium. This will allow the people to take a feel of an undersea walk, witnessing rich marine life. Tourists can reach this place by taking a bus, an auto rickshaw or a taxi from elsewhere in the city.

Lovely fishes

They have really done up the place well with all the latest variety of fishes which we may not get a chance to see otherwise. It was recently renovated a year ago almost, hosting the marine and freshwater fishes. It is a real experience to see this place. Not only the children but even the adults enjoy watching the big and the small fishes.

Good for once

Go early when the museum opens to avoid the crowd and you will enjoy the exhibits. Place is renovated some time ago and good for kids. Parking is a big issue there. Also the camera fees are too high.

Newly renovated and has a big queue to get in, new addition to fishes. This aquarium is the oldest in Mumbai and attracts loads of tourists daily. Not so great if you have been to seaworld across the world.

One of the most visit place on Marin lines. Government has already redeveloped and modernized aquarium in view of tourist visit. Avoid weekly off and school holidays. Since its one of the best attractions for children. You may have to wait in Que to see this place.

It has become a world class aquarium

After being closed for over two years for renovation, the Taraporewala Aquarium finally opened to guests last week. Trust me, everything from the varieties of fish to the decoratives they've used in this aquarium, its truly beautiful. A must visit at this place in Mumbai.
