Being to Kumarakom I always wanted to enjoy the local cuisine and the local people lifestyle, not to forget the accommodation too. So, after much research we finally selected the Tharavadu Heritage home. What caught my attention were the beautiful pictures of the place. I did read the reviews and the only con about it was that it was just adjacent to a temple, which creates a havoc during the early mornings . We booked the bamboo cottage, some 200sqfeet room for Rs810 and used OYO rooms for doing so, this was just the room rate, non A/C, excluding food . The room was very basic. There was a small pond nearby, which had fishes in it and loads of mosquitoes. We had reached the place earlier than the check-in time, however the owners were really sweet to let us use them bathroom to freshen up. After waiting for roughly 15 mins, the room was ready and we were given the key for the same. It was a small room, nothing fancy, very basic. A bed, a clothes hanger, a small tv and fan. They had a small sit out area, but due to the mosquitoes it was difficult to sit there Bathroom was basic too, but it was clean. Although, it had this smell of room which has not been opened for ages, maybe it was because of the rain Pointers:. *Do carry ODOMOS or any other mosquito repellant . *Take a room spray if you can . *Wear full clothes or be fully covered . *The restaurant can provide you food, however you have to order 1 hr in advance. The dinner was served cold and as we had expected *The room had a bible, I thought that was rude. Any resort/hotel should be neutral in terms of religion . *The prayer in the adjacent temple starts at somewhere at 4. 00am and is quite loud. It will disturb your sleep and this goes on till 6. 00am . *Location is very good, just opposite to the Government jetty place . *Very near to the main road . *TV did not work in the Bamboo cottage Ratings:. *Cost-4/5. *Food-2. 5/5. *Location-4/5. *Ambience-4. *Service-5/5. *Value for money-4.
It is conveniently located near the govt boat jetty and all major attractions are located nearby. A nice looking and well maintained place, it offers a good ambiance although the nearby main road is a bit too crowded and noisy.
This is an excellent budget hotel that can beat the enjoyment of a resort. This is located just besides a backwater and is surrounded by greenness. The room in which I stayed was a smaller one but the enjoyment of the place compensate everything. Jetty is available just besides the hotel, from where one can make a one or two hour trip of backwater or sea. Houseboats are also available at this place and charges are much lesser than that at Alleppey. So one can make an alternate for alleppey from this place. One concern is food that is of good quality at hotel but is not available nearby. If one had a reserved vehicle the Dubai hotel could be enjoyed for delicious food.
Place has a story to tell of its own. The resort is a old heritage home with excellent cozy rooms and location. There is a small stream near the side of the hotel and during the rainy season the place looks very beautiful. Food prepared here is excellent, especially appam and ishtu Kerala curry. A must try. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to leave in old heritage hotel.
The hotel is situated at a good spot. I stayed there for only one day. The staff service was very good they were friendly and helpful. At the same time quick to the service. There was a good view from the room. The appearance of the hotel both exterior and interior was quite good. Rooms were clean and neat I had taken a Non- AC room and all amenities were functioning properly. There was no delay while check-in and check-out procedure. I was satisfied with the hotel and it was value for the money. I would like to recommend to other travellers.
This is one of the silent destinations that one can adore. The architecture and the ambience was excellent. Nearest destination to the government boat jetty which is the cheapest mode of experiencing the back waters. The Kartikeya temple situated near to the venue was a unique experience. The lighting of the temple premises in the evening was mind blowing. The bird sanctuary which is in the close proximity of the venue is again an addon to stay at the destination. If you want to stay away from the busy city life then this would be the best choice.
