The Dargah Complex Overview

Ranked 7 of 53 sightseeing in Ajmer

“A fakir is one who is free of all needs” – the remains of the saint who said this are believed to be lying under the silver canopy covered with velvet and silks, attar and sandal, and silver and gold zari chaadars.

The complex of the Dargah (Holy Shrine) is spread over a vast area in the heart of the old city of Ajmer. About 4 km from the railway station and 5 km from the bus terminal, this complex is accessible easily. Besides the Tomb, it is surrounded by many structures within the premises which were constructed by various kings and devotees over a period of time.

As you visit the dargah, you can witness a couple of entrance gates as high as 70 ft. which stand out in the crowded market. These were built by the Nizam of Hyderabad in the year 1915. You can have a glance of the Akbari Masjid and also admire the Buland Darwaza. On one side is the Mehfil Khana, which is a hall opened only for the festival of Urus, and on the other side one can notice the Langar Khana.

This place is a magnificent amalgamation of old world traditions surviving the hustle-bustle of today's world, something you wouldn't want to miss!

The Dargah Complex

One of the main shrine of Islamic community, the Dargah of Ajmer welcomes pilgrimages and tourist from all over the country. The Dargah campus is huge and there are multiple segments apart from main Dargah room. There are multiple dedicated place for the Namaj according to various belief and community. Covering you head is must if you enter to the premises.

Sarif dargah

On your trip to Pushkar, dont forget to drive a few extra kilometres and visit the world-famous Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer. Visit it to make offerings in the name of the Sufi saint. Adding to the ambience of the Dargah complex is its impeccable Maugham architecture, spellbinding evening and that divine scent of rose petals and incense sticks all around.

Virtually Dargah Complex itself is a township

Ajmer is famous throughout the subcontinent and throughout the Muslim world, for the Holy Shrine, Dargah Sharif, The Tomb of Sufi Saint. This Dargah Complex is located in the Southwest Corner of the Ajmer. Virtually the complex itself is a township. It includes a bazaar and two mosques built by Mughal Emperors Akbar and Shah Jahan. Akbar was the most famous devotee, and once walked barefoot all the way from Agra To Ajmer. Two giant iron cauldrons are there either side of the main gate, in those special rice pudding is cooked in small one 2400 Kgs and other one 4800 Kgs can be cooked and devotees do the charity, at the time of Urs( Death Anniversary), and Sufi musician praise in front of his tomb and separately a hall is also built for the same purpose. A public kitchen and an orphanage home is also run in the complex. Just before the tomb a water pool is there which was built by some of the British Officer, this complex is a walled complex, and for female separate arrangements are made, in front of the tomb called Baradari. Once you enter the complex, you realize a powerful attraction to come out.
